New York has decided to do this Reduce Sky train tickets from JFK Airport to downtown for just $4.25 one way from July 1 to Labor Day (September 2)officials said.
The decision is aimed at helping travelers avoid construction work at the famous international hub as it undergoes a massive $19 billion renovation.
According to T&LJKF will brag “two new international terminals and two renovated terminals, a new ground transport center and new roads. Once completed, JFK will welcome travelers to a brand new Terminal 1, a new Terminal 6 (which will connect to Terminal 5), an expanded Terminal 4 and a revamped Terminal 8.”
Aimed at New Yorkers and visitors, the initiative aims to promote the airport’s AirTrain as the best mode of transportation to and from the heart of the city, as private and shared rides may be delayed due to ongoing construction.
This train connects the airport to the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and the city subway, as well as hotel shuttles, rental car zones and parking lots.
“As transformation takes place at JFK, we are taking steps to reduce travel delays and reaffirm what has always been true: there is no better option than taking the train to the plane,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
“As we head into a busy summer, we are making it more affordable for travelers to use the AirTrain, giving New Yorkers and visitors around the world the best-in-class travel experience they deserve,” she concluded.
The new rate went into effect $8.50 to $4.25 and applies to Jamaica and Howard Beach stations. Children under 5 years old can travel for free. Passengers can pay via MetroCard or OMNY.
Another strategy to help reduce traffic is the opening of a drop-off/pick-up area on Lefferts Blvd. station.
Taking the AirTrain is not only cheap, but also the best choice for getting to and from JFK Airport during the busy summer months, as the hub is breaking all arrival records.
According to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recorded its highest ever record with more than 3 million passengers on Sunday alone.
This summer there will be an increase of 700,000 passengers compared to the same period last year.
