It’s hard to imagine that a destination could be more beautiful than Tuscany.
Take it from a Californian: not even the famous Napa Valley comes close.
But does it ever get boring to discover more of the world?
That’s a hard noespecially when it comes to wine.
Whether it’s checking iconic cities off your bucket list or heading out with an open mind and no agenda, some of the biggest surprises often come from places we least expect them.
The Czech Republic (also called the Czech Republic) is a beautiful country, and 99% of the time your gateway to this European gem is through the fantastic city of Prague.
And as in many countries around the world, there is much more to see than just the most remarkable city.
In this case yes Znojmothe The ‘Tuscany’ of the Czech Republicpacked with extensive vineyards and charming streets in the South Moravia region of the Czech Republic.
More beautiful than Tuscany?
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, which makes me question my last relationship.
What was I thinking?!
Don’t worry, though; you are in good hands.
My travel track record is far more impressive than my dating record, and I’ve already circled Znojmo as a possible next getaway, realizing that adulting and wine in your mid-30s go hand in hand.
What should be questioned is the claim made by recent travelers that the unknown city of Znojmo is more beautiful than Tuscany.
According to the Tourist Authority South Moraviathey say: “We swear that nowhere else in the world can you take more beautiful photos of rolling landscapes.”
Tuscany is of course Italy’s most famous wine region and one of the most popular wine destinations in the world.
As you can imagine, imagine endless rows of vineyards and all the charm Italy has to offer.
It’s hard to beat by any standards.
Znojmo has flown under the radar as a major wine destination, but its stunning beauty, affordability and locally produced decadent wine may well surpass Tuscany.
It’s honestly postcard worthy and that’s exactly what you’ll send your friends and family if you fall in love with this place… because, well, sending a bottle of wine home isn’t exactly cheap.
Forget Two Buck Chuck, it’s 60 Cent Wine Time!
We’ve all searched the aisles of the supermarket and made the embarrassing decision to grab the cheapest bottle (or box) of wine on the shelf.
You no longer have to look over your shoulder to see if someone is assessing what is in your shopping cart.
If you’ve taken a trip deep into Europe, it’s time to treat yourself.
Enjoy the Czech Republic’s most renowned wine selection without worrying about going over budget.
Glasses of local wine can be found for about 60 cents each, a far cry from anywhere in the United States.
One such place is Enoteka, a recently renovated wine bar.
But for something more, it’s safe to say that wine glasses are easy to find less than $1 throughout the region, including the vineyards themselves.
Although the full tasting costs a little more, you can enjoy a world of flavors for the same price you would spend on a single decent bottle at home or in Tuscany.
According to Wine tourismexpect to pay between $16 and $30 for wine tastings at the most popular wineries in the area.
But hopheads can rejoice too! Beer has been a staple in Znojmo for hundreds of years.
Znojmo Brewery only dating back to 1720, where you can still get a glimpse back in time as the adjacent medieval castle still stands and is open to the public.
Historic charm and underground splendor of a small city
Zjonmo is the opposite of Prague in the sense that the finer things in life are so grand. No huge city squares, busy Christmas markets or crazy nightlife.
The city teems with old-world allure, Europe’s quintessential cobbled streets and timeless architecture, as you look out over vast vineyards, a reminder that wine was invented in Europe.
Save the Znojmo Castle, but more surprising is what lies beneath. No, they’re not mega sharks swimming beneath Znojmo, like that new, awful Netflix movie.
It is a maze of ancient tunnels, 27 kilometers long, open to the public and ready to be explored.
While you’ll never tire of the countless hours spent strolling through charming streets (and tunnels) and sipping wine, getting here is a different story.
Flying to Brno is the easiest as it is only an hour away. You can also fly to Prague and book a 3-hour flight RegioJet trip. It’s worth it!
Tip: Plan a fall trip to witness the rolling hills transformed into magical fall colors and score cheaper hotel rates.
