Do you have plans for the Big Apple this fall? Think again.
No, you do not have to cancel your trip. Just change it up a bit. If you fly into Newark, even better!
As New York City’s urban sprawl transforms into a colorful playground of endless adventure during the fall, it’s New York’s “sixth borough” that’s on the rise across the Hudson River.

Often overlooked as a destination city, 2024 is apparently the year of new beginnings for this underrated gem.
Beyond Manhattan, Brooklyn and the melting pot of cultures of the Bronx lies Jersey Cityan extension of New York and a burgeoning hotspot with its own charm and character.
National Geographic this fall, JC has been highly regarded as the region’s new “it” destination, even as neighborhoods like Harlem have undergone extensive aesthetic and cultural changes.
Who needs Central Park anyway?
If there’s a movie set in New York, chances are you’ve seen Central Park a million times.

I get it. It’s beautiful, iconic, and one of the best destinations in New York City for sensory overload for people watching and cheap street food.
Just because everyone Going there doesn’t mean you have to follow the crowd. Actually… you could say the crowd is building in Jersey City.
NYC’s brother across the Hudson is all the rage: a thriving arts scene, diverse community and bustling markets have attracted more visitors, giving the more popular neighborhoods a run for their money.
Not to mention how beautiful New Jersey’s own parks are in and around the area from Hoboken to JC and beyond as reds, golds and rustic browns start to pop in color.

Although you can’t go to the top of the Empire State Building or take in a famous Broadway show, the view of the city skyline from Jersey City is impeccable, giving visitors perhaps the best view of the city.

Flying Spongebobs, freezing weather and crowds of people are no better than the warmth and comfort of your couch.
That said, fall is still an incredible time to visit the area. Whether Jersey City becomes your base or an addition to a fun trip to New York, there’s a lot going on in the Holland Tunnel.
Ranging from Oktoberfest, annual street markets, to my personal favorite, the very lively Navratri – a multi-night festival that overtakes the streets of ethnically rich India Square.
However, no official dates are yet known for the latter. Last year it started on October 20th.
Jersey City’s vibrant arts scene knows it’s worth celebrating; That’s why there are pop-up events and showcases all year round.

However, one of the most intriguing events this fall is the Jersey City Art and Studio Tourwhich will allow guests to enjoy a front-row seat to the inner workings of local artists’ creations from October 4 through October 4 6.
But it wouldn’t fall without a fall festival, right?
Located in beautiful Bethune Park, the Autumn Festival is the perfect way to start the season with seasonal treats from local vendors.
And yes, they definitely have PSLs!
New York atmosphere without the big crowds
Ever been to Times Square? It’s quite difficult to navigate.

With thousands upon thousands of tourists gazing at neon lights and vendors selling *absolutely real* Louis Vuitton bags, good luck getting through all that!
Jersey City is the best of both worlds: a little bit of suburbia, a lot of culture and a similar New York vibe, just scaled down.
There’s still plenty to see and do, or you can follow my lead and make Jersey City your base and explore New York during the day.
Jersey City is super easy to get to from Manhattan by PAD train.
Please note that unlike New York’s unlimited balance subway rides, PATH trains are pay-per-use when you use your MetroCard.
