The most unexpected clothing alliances are being formed in Lagos’ fashion scene. Here, tomboy fashion is combined with girlish mini dresses in a beautiful symphony. While loungewear pants exude comfort, the chic dresses usher in a party girl vibe. When fashion enters the group chat, everything adapts to the demanding personality. Fashion is a story and every Naija style star has a chapter dedicated to her sartorial explorations.

The ability to use traditional textures in contemporary fashion is necessary to remain relevant in 2024. After all, the world still basks in its glory. Nigerian designers often combine these fabrics to create simplistic ensembles or bold designs, and the stars certainly know how to rock them with gusto. This is a nod to creativity and upholding our roots. It would be an anomaly if African prints were more celebrated at international fairs, catwalks and events, while at home the fame insulates their impact.

#1. Sandra Okunzunwa

For the publicity of her film ‘Something Like Gold’, actress Sandra Okunzunwa stayed in character in a chic red mini dress. The one-sleeve dress featured three statement rosette details that drew attention to the piece. The offering was livened up with a black bag, statement sunglasses and PVC spiked pumps. The dress that matched the frame was an added advantage, with an effect that was nothing short of confident.

#2. Shaffy Bello

African prints have always had global relevance, but now they are everywhere, and for good reason. Actress Shaffy Bello wore an Afrocentric Janae style: a mix of modern silhouettes and a traditional mix of Aso Oke and Adire. The asymmetric hem top, constructed like a dashiki, has enhanced the wide hem pants with complete finesse. It helped that both textures blended effortlessly, as they shared peaceful shades of blue. The actress introduced a big bag to the mix with a texture, construction and quality that screamed rich without trying.

#3. Nancy Isime

A sporty black and white outfit fits perfectly at the airport. Travel light, comfortable and stylish: that’s the code. Actress Nancy Isime combine white chunky sneakers with a black turtleneck, oversized palazzo pants, a silver baguette bag and cool sunglasses for good measure. Rock an oversized and neat outfit that allows you to eat without judgment and still keep going steep is the best travel move you can make.

#4. Veeke James

Looking rich is a function of your wallet and skills. Adorning a designer ensemble from head to toe isn’t a guarantee that you’ll nail the look, but understanding the styling is essential. Designer Veeke James has a tendency for both, with her designs taking precedence. She recently turned heads with a color-blocking move. Wearing a flamboyant yellow blouse with exaggerated ‘wings’ for the sleeves, custom-made orange wide-leg trousers and a gold purse, she went into full-on boss chic mode.

#5. Apet Modella

Denim mini skirts offer the versatility girls crave. You can practice them to achieve any feminine theme. Model Apet got creative with white pumps and matching socks, with orange accents that complemented her orange hat, and a white T-shirt tucked into a denim miniskirt. The standout feature of this look was the fit. Next were her legs. Showing off your legs without giving much away is a smart move with a ladylike look.

#6. Toke Makinwa

Media personality Toke Makinwa threw a fit with this fit. Okay, I’ll admit my mediocre attempt at a pun, but you’ll agree that it’s an undeniable hit at turning denim into a serious look. Makinwa opted for a denim jacket with cold shoulders and oversized sleeves, paired with loose cut jeans. The look alone is a statement, but she still chose to inject orange tones into her handbag and sunglasses. Consider an orange and denim combination for a chic look.

Nigerian content creator, Ki Kias she is popularly known, is a Naija style star who is always right. She wore an Ankara print set, consisting of an unbuttoned cropped jacket and a mini skirt, with popping red pumps and a matching bag. First, the miniskirt had pockets. Second, the Accost Collection set featured organized placement of decorations. Very cute. This season, proud shades in various prints have flooded mainstream fashion. When in doubt, add red accessories for glare.
