Honestly, there aren’t many ribbon-cutting ceremonies for pristine destinations anymore, but mark your calendars this fall for perhaps the most exciting airport news of the year.
Better yet, there are two more in the works for the same destination. For that you have to wait until 2026, but the first domino will fall November.

One of Europe’s most challenging destinations to reach is about to get so much easier now that the first wave of flights has already started.
Unfortunately you have to connect through Denmark, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers, and there’s been a lot of begging over the years for Greenland more accessible.
Step aside Iceland! There is a new natural wonder to discover

Iceland has long been a fascinating destination full of wonderful sites, but now it is so much easier to get to that many argue it is not worth visiting.
Between sky-high prices, possibly the most expensive in Europe, and busy waterfalls and thermal springs, it has made look-alikes like the beautiful Faroe Islands all the more attractive.
Naturally, the Faroe Islands beat Greenland by a wide margin and even launched direct flights to the US
But Greenland is a more recognizable name, long desired as Europe’s last frontier to explore.
It was a hassle to fly here, so many have opted for cruises instead.

Greenland receives a large number of cruise tourists. Even according to the official tourism of Greenland statisticsBetween 2022 and 2023 there was a peak of 73%.
Now, more travelers are sure to take to the skies to avoid the hassle of flying to Iceland and then sailing across the icy seas.
This fall, a visit will be easier than ever.
Really wild: think Iceland, Alaska and Antarctica all in one place
Greenland is not its own country; it is a Danish territory.
While not necessarily an alternative to Copenhagen, it is a great alternative to some of the world’s most remote natural wonders.

Believe it or not, Antarctica in particular saw a huge increase in travel interest earlier this year, so these types of destinations are certainly being hyped.
Visiting urban jungles like New York City and Sao Paulo can be the trip of a lifetime, but nothing can beat immersing yourself in the elements of raw, untouched atmospheres. That’s why I’m glad I had the chance to visit Iceland before that happened. super popular.
You will have the same feeling about Greenland.
Imagine dog sledding through wide open snowy landscapes and visiting breathtaking glaciers without the eyesore of selfie sticks like Iceland now has.

Perhaps best of all, it would be amazing to witness the Northern Lights where there is absolutely no light pollution.
Just crystal clear dancing skies all to yourself. Well, and the approximately 60,000 inhabitants of the entire island…
It is often said that Greenland and Iceland should have changed names, but there are scattered places where you can enjoy a beautiful, scenic walk without hiking boots.
Check out Ilulissat Ice Fjorda UNESCO protected site with enchanting glaciers.
Not to get political here, but this particular place has moved the needle in the conversation about climate change.
New Nuuk Airport will open in November

The capital of Greenland is Nuuk, a small, vibrant city with beautiful backdrops, colorful architecture, incredible whale watching excursions and proud natives who hold on to age-old traditions.
This will be your gateway to Greenland November 29, 2024 when the new international airport opens their runway for direct flights from Copenhagen (CPH).
Tickets are on sale now for $415 from Air Greenland official website.
One fear that ‘experts’ have about more travel to Greenland is the lack of hotel rooms.
For a country where most tourists rest their heads at night on a cruise ship, this is a legitimate cause for concern.

If Rome wasn’t built in a day, we shouldn’t expect Greenland to be either.
Only time will tell how this issue will develop, but for now there are hotels spread across the main destinations.
More listings are also appearing on Airbnb as locals become more accustomed to opening their homes to travelers.
