Paradise Island in Nassau, formerly known as Hog Island, is experiencing tremendous international attention, attracting visitors from around the world and breaking tourism records for the Bahamas.
What makes this island special is the perfect mix of luxury, adventure and cultural experiences. Visitors can easily fall in love with the pristine beaches, vibrant Caribbean nightlife, and world-class resorts like Atlantis and Baha Mar. Additionally, the international shopping scene attracts travelers from multiple high-spending countries.
Its rich history, reflected in landmarks such as the Queen’s Staircase and Fort Charlotte, suits travelers who want to enjoy the charm of the Caribbean, spiced with a bit of history and culture.
Here is a summary of what Joy Jibrilu, CEO of the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board, said Caribbean magazine about the tourist and economic wonder of this island.
The opening of the Nassau cruise port has been the key to success as it has not only boosted tourism but also encouraged the opening of new restaurants, bars and shopping centers. Notably, these establishments are owned by the local community, something “unusual” in the Caribbean, according to those responsible for marketing the island abroad.
“The opening of the new cruise port has of course resulted in exponential growth. But despite the hotel industry on Nassau and Paradise Island, they are seeing such great occupancy rates and average daily rates that they are having a phenomenal year. And so they’re keeping their fingers crossed that this will continue and everyone, how do I say, we’re cautiously optimistic that it’s going to be another good year for us.”
“All the offerings that are available in that space, including the entertainment that happens there every weekend, are all local to the Bahamas and Nassau and Paradise Island,” Jibrilu said.
Another factor contributing to Nassau’s appeal to international visitors is its continued investment in innovation and new experiences, giving tourists the feeling that they are visiting a new destination every time they land on the island.
This approach applies not only to experiences, but also to hotels, which consistently improve their facilities and offerings.
“We continue to expand all the things there are to do and see. So in addition to the hotel offering, it is about the added value, it is the upgrades to the Queen’s Staircase.’ So when people come, they say, “Oh, I was there five years ago. What’s new to see? And then come back and be absolutely amazed.”
Finally, we must mention the increase in the number of airlines and routes as a determining factor in the island’s recent success. Nassau Paradise Island now has new connections to the West Coast via major US airlines.
The “The opening of the West Coast has been a game changer for us, and while we were looking forward to maybe one or two flights a week, we are thrilled when both Alaska Airlines and JetBlue entered the market.”
