As summer turns to fall, many digital nomads are packing up in search of sunshine elsewhere.
With warm weather all year round, there is an unheard of city that has been catching the interest of digital nomads lately.
In fact, it ranks fifth in the Latin America subcategory of the Nomad List. Beware, Medellín!
Brazil is like a Clint Eastwood movie: there are good, bad and ugly movies, but for the most part, travelers absolutely love coming here.
I’m happy to say I’m one of them.
Although it is not Sao Paulo, Rio or my favorite Belo Horizonte, where we are seeing an increase in the number of remote workers on the go; it is the beautiful coastal city Recife that is on the rise.
The ‘Caribbean of Brazil‘
Home to 1.5 million people, Recife is an often overlooked paradise along Brazil’s northeastern Atlantic coast.
The views are breathtaking from end to end, where the vibrant blue waters are perfectly swimmable all year round, whatever the season.
Digital nomads are known for hopping from place to place, but it’s also fun to just kick back and stay a while.
Here that’s always a good option because you never have to escape the cold like in some other notable destinations.
As Brazil’s fourth largest city, there will never be a dull moment, day or night, except for your Zoom meetings.
With a vibrant nightlife and hospitable localsyou fit in seamlessly.
Not to mention, there are plenty of opportunities for cafes and co-working spaces to keep up with their new digital nomad craze.
But you only want to stay indoors as long as you miss too much of the beautiful beauty that Recife has to offer.
Dubbed the ‘Brazil Caribbean’, there are some truly breathtaking beaches to visit. According to TripAdvisorthe top 3 beaches in Recife Are:

Cheap and cultural: Recife meets all requirements
Recife is not all shiny high-rise apartments and vibrant blue water. It is a fascinating place, captivating by its astonishing nature and cultural delights.
The Old Town is a neighborhood that is definitely worth spending most of your time in.
And since many Americans haven’t ended up here yet, it’s not your average “old town” overrun with tourist gimmicks.
It’s more of a step back in time as you wander the colorful streets lined with Portuguese landmarks and attractive eateries and cafes, perfect for enjoying Brazil’s famous culture. caipirinhas on a sunny day.
Better yet, Recife is very affordable. While it may be a wake-up call to hear that residents here aren’t paid very well, digital nomads actually boost the local economy by coming to such places.
It is reported that digital nomads live on as little as $1300 per month. Should I start packing now?!
A quick look at Airbnb listings shows centrally located apartments for as little as $535 per month.
In addition to affordability, Recife scores highly in these 5 categories according to Nomad List:

- Food safety
- Electricity grid
- Fun (the most important thing, right?!)
Not to mention Brazil’s offers free public health care. Remind me why I live in the US again…
Tip: Safety scores poorly here, but these concerns are widespread throughout Brazil. If security were truly out of control, the recent influx of digital nomads would not make Recife comfortable, nor would Brazil be constantly breaking tourism records.
Easy Peasy Digital Nomad Visa Process
Although Brazil has failed several times on the newly initiated visa policy, the digital nomad visa seems to be here to stay.
No traveler likes having to deal with the frustrating bureaucracy of travel, but it’s much more understanding for longer stays like the digital nomad lifestyle.
Fortunately, Brazil is one of the least annoying. The user-friendly interface makes it easy to understand and simple to use.
Nomads can stay for up to 1 year with the option to extend for another year and cost between $100 and 300 depending on where you sign up.
