If there is one place on earth where you can witness the most incredible marriage between paradisiacal beaches and ancient cultures, it is the Mediterranean Sea.
But now that we are all getting tired of articles shoving Greece, Italy or Spain down our throats, there is another story, far away lesser known gem which has become one of the trendiest destinations in the region in the international travel world.
That’s right, Cyprus welcomed in total 2,758,627 tourists in the first nine months of 2024, setting a brand new tourism record and leaving travelers from around the world wondering: is the dreamy island really as good as they say?
Unfortunately for those of you looking to cut back on travel this year, the answer is yes!
This is why:
You still have time for an incredible beach vacation
In most places around the world it gets way too cold to even fathom a beach holiday.
But not Cyprus.
With daytime temperatures hovering around 26°C, even in October, you can still enjoy a sunbath or two along the island’s coast. incredible coastline.
And the best of all is that even iconic places like Fig Tree Bay or Nissi Beach are quieter (and therefore cheaper) than ever at this time of year, so you can enjoy the Cypriot sun knowing you’re well prepared. the best value for your money.
But before you pack your bags, I would like to point out that temperatures can drop to 13.5°C in the dark – after all, even the Mediterranean centers are not completely immune to autumn weather – so make sure you bring a few light jackets along for those late evening walks.
One of the cheaper Mediterranean hubs
Sure, Cyprus isn’t cheap in the Balkans, but it is is not Italy-durationor.
All in all, this is one of the best places in the Mediterranean, where even budget travelers can get great value for their money.
I’ll show you how.
The coastline is filled with beautiful, amenity-packed hotels that charge quite reasonable prices – take a look Lysithea HotelFor example.
The rooms are clean and spacious, the hotel itself is just 100 yards away from the beach, and get this: rooms here start at just $50 per night!
Eating out is more comparable to other Mediterranean countries, think $50 for a meal for two, but unlike many other hotspots in the region, most attractions here are either completely free to enter or costs less than $10.
So much culture to take in
The great thing about visiting Cyprus at this time of year is that while you can certainly enjoy a beach holiday, you don’t have to miss out on the “city break” experience either.
There’s just so much culture, energy and… history to realize here that you will never have a dull second.
If it’s your first time in the country, I recommend focusing on a few unmissable towns and monuments; otherwise it becomes too overwhelming.
My top picks are Kourion, Paphos, the Church of Asinou and the Monastery of Kykkos (both found in the Troodos Mountains), and of course beautiful Nicosia (the capital of Cyprus).
Autumn in Cyprus is anything but boring
We all know that islands can seem, for lack of a better word, dead during the colder months when the summer crowds have disappeared.
But because Cyprus is such a thriving cultural center and a… beach paradisethe life and energy here never really goes away.
Those of you who are lucky enough to travel to the Mediterranean island this fall will have the best time taking part in all the local events without having to cram in among thousands of other tourists.
The iconic Limassol Wine Festivalis just around the corner, complete with tastings and live performances taking place every day between September 28 and October 6.
However, if I were to go through everything you can look forward to this fall in Cyprus, I’d be here all day, so head here herewhere I guarantee you will find something that piques your interest.
