With every new season of Big Brother Nigeria, there is one element of the show that we always look forward to Ebuka Obi-Uchendu’s way to spotlight innovative Nigerian designers at every live show. From his regular clients such as ATAFO and Deco 29, each season tells a different fashion story, while meticulously tapping into Nigeria’s range of cultures through the infusion of specific traditional elements into trend-setting futuristic looks.
The BBNaija No loose guard season was no different. In fact, this season might just be one of Ebuka’s most experimental seasons when it comes to fashion as, in collaboration with his designers, he put a twist on already existing designs and, as usual, stole the spotlight more than once. Here are some of our favorite looks.
Check out some of our favorite looks from Ebuka in BBNaija season 9…
Rocking Ugo Monye:
It is clear that Ebuka holds his legacy designers close to his heart, and Ugo Monye is a designer who continues to experiment and innovate, a vision that matches Ebuka’s style. For this look, the duo created a streetwear-inspired two-piece Adire piece, accented with beading along the patterns.
Combining elements of traditional clothing and streetwear, they created a fashionable piece that further proves their mutual love for continually pushing the boundaries of men’s fashion through their collaboration. It’s easily one of the best looks we saw at Ebuka during the No loose protector Season.
Ebuka in Deco 29:
It’s not BBNaija season if Deco 29 doesn’t show up and stand out with his signature traditional look for BBNaija’s live eviction show. Ebuka looked regal in the all-black agbada ensemble tagged ‘Oba Dudu.’ According to Deco, this piece celebrated cultural heritage through fashion, because the ensemble carries a story, so to speak, that connects people to their roots and traditions.
With the aim of continuously telling cultural stories through fashion, Deco delivers every season. We have to appreciate the attention to detail and THE STAFF! Impeccable style.
Regal in ATAFO:
When you see this outfit, the first thing that screams at you is the details. In typical Ebuka fashion, his third outfit for the opening night of the BBNaija S9 was a traditional attire embroidered with gold stitching and adorned with striking gold accessories.
The outfit stole the night for its unconventional yet traditional take on native Nigerian attire. The collaboration between ATAFO and Ebuka is always a success. It’s a no brainer.
Tense in TI Nathan:
This is by far the most modern, yet futuristic and innovative look Ebuka wore on BBNaija this season. But before we talk about the star of the show: the blazer, can we first talk about the shoes? Balenciaga’s space shoe added a little something extra to this outfit, and it was a welcome addition.
Now the blazer, with TI Nathan’s signature stitching, the two-tone cropped blazer stole the show, while the unique silhouette and boxy fit brought the overall look to life. It’s Ebuka, so the accessories were obviously good too.
Honorable mention:
Did you know that Ebuka’s look for the seventh live show was inspired by his 83-year-old father, Chief Obi A. Uchendu? From the choice of fabric to the accessories and the calmness, everything was a ten out of ten, and Deco 29 once again deserves its flowers for always telling important stories with fashion.
The BBNaija No loose protector The final went live on Sunday 6 October on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49 and of course Ebuka had even more interesting styling in store for us – this time with two more ATAFO ensembles. The first, a vibrant suit look:
The second, a contemporary take on traditional Northern Nigerian attire:
It was a day of dreams come true, with a cash prize of N65 million and an SUV worth N50 million at stake. Ultimately a finalist Kelly Rae Sule took home the crown as the season ended with a resounding bang.
