Who’s up for an adventure?

Normally winter travelers stay close to home for the winter sun and save up for a big summer vacation, but why wait?!

Life is short. Sometimes you just have to say ‘fu’…

Fun calls. Yes, that’s what I wanted to say.

The world is big, but it seems a lot smaller when there are non-stop flights to distant destinations.

Good news for Americans is one of them most exciting new routes has just launched to an incredible warm weather city in the land down under.

While it may be tempting to explore the bustling streets of Melbourne or pose in front of the world famous streets of Sydney Operathere’s another Australian city that deserves a place at the table, with three direct routes from the US

Brisbane: one of Australia’s coolest cities

Ever heard of Brisbane? Let’s refresh your memory.

If you’re like me, one of the most famous Aussies was a childhood hero of mine.

You know who I’m talking about, the Crocodile hunter himself, Steve Irwin. Just north of Brisbane was Steve’s playground for all his exciting animal encounters.

His parents founded the Beerwah Reptile Park, where he practically grew up and is now world famous Australia Zoohome to 1,200 animals and counting.

Say what you will about zoos, but this one should be the exception to any hesitations as you won’t be able to suppress your enthusiasm for wildlife in typical Irwin fashion.

Tip: the zoo offers day trips from Brisbane every day at 9am.

That said, the zoo isn’t the only reason to fly to Brisbane – it really is a great city to explore, especially if it’s 85 degrees freezing here and at home.

Here in Brisbane, the outdoors seem to come alive, whether you’re traversing trendy neighborhoods and enjoying a cup of coffee on a shaded patio, or going for a swim in the man-made urban oasis, Streets Beach (free entry!).

And that’s just within the cityscape. Brisbane is best explored as a region, rather than staying within easy reach of the beautiful skyline.

Come hungry, pack your swimsuit and walking shoes and you are sure to have an unforgettable trip discovering Australia’s paradises such as Nudgee Beach, Suttons Beach and D’Aguilar National Park.

Brisbane sits on prime real estate with its own beautiful beaches, but also within 2 hours of both the Sunshine Coast to the north and the slightly closer Gold Coast to the south.

In Brisbane, visitors will love visiting Suttons and Nudgee, as I just highlighted, but also Shorncliffe Beach lined with fish ‘n chip restaurants and the reddish sands of Redcliffe Beach also.

There are too many to list, but what may be most enticing is a trip to Brisbane’s numerous islands, which may fly under the radar.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Australia without kangaroo sightings – but why not take it up a level with said beach sightings?

Just try to avoid getting into a boxing match as seen on some viral TikTok clips, even though you probably have a better chance than what the world just saw watching Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson… which was that?!

For more tame nature observations, visit North Stradbroke Island by ferry from Cleveland for exceptional beaches and whale watching.

Reaching Brisbane from the US

The West Coast had a monopoly on direct flights from Brisbane, but hey, there’s a new sheriff in town.

Dallas has gotten into the chat, launching the Lone Star State’s most exciting new route on October 26.

Now that the new flight has started, all the US toppers are flying non-stop to Brisbane – Delta, United, and finally to the party, American, which has also just announced two new routes to Italy.

Here’s the full schedule for flights between Brisbane and the US:

  • Los Angeles: United flies from LAX on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays on a 13-hour, 25-minute flight
  • San Francisco: Delta flies from SFO, except Mondays and Thursdays, on a flight time of 13 hours and 5 minutes
  • Dallas: American flies out of DFW every day at 9:40 a.m. on a 14 hour, 55 minute flight
