Those of us who follow travel news like a hawk were very disappointed to hear of the delay in launching a new “sleeper train” connecting two of America’s most iconic cities.
Taking a page out of the European playbook, it is long overdue for such exciting transit methods to make their way to the motherland.
In typical American style, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was scratched due to a variety of unforeseen problems.
Originally scheduled for a 2024 launch, this highly anticipated night train will arrive fashionably late with even better upgrades as more time has passed to fine-tune the smallest details.
Most travelers may be focused on their next winter vacation, but it’s never too early to start marking your calendar.
With an unofficial date targeted for the summer of 2025, the West Coast just got more exciting.
Reaching Los Angeles and San Francisco no longer requires a flight or a long road trip Dreamstar lines launches a luxury overnight train connecting these American icons so you can ‘rediscover the joy of travel’.
No more red tape: far-fetched dreams will soon become reality
If Dreamstar had chosen Philly to New York, Austin to Dallas or Portland to Seattle, this far-fetched dream might already have become a reality.
Unfortunately, Dreamstar chose LA instead of San Fran, which happens to be a state known for taking their time with new projects.
Designing state-of-the-art cabins, finding usable tracks and ensuring passenger safety is not exactly an easy task.
Delays may have been inevitable in retrospect, but it looks like the train is literally on track for the summer of 2025, at least according to the local news source Fox LA.
Sleep in luxury and get to work
Not many details have been leaked about the amenities of Dreamstar’s new train. In fact, their entire website is a tease, with each category simply saying “coming soon.”
What we do know is that they stuck BMW with the design of the carts, which are expected to have luxury suites in First Class, standard seating and bedrooms for Economy, and a separate cart with an open-seating lounge.
Of course, all carts will be equipped with restrooms, but there’s no official word on whether First Class will be the only class with private access.
The goal of booking these types of trips is to avoid the hassle. As someone who has taken a road trip from San Diego to San Francisco, this is not the easiest or most fun route.
Believe me; you’ll know when you’ve reached Bakersfield just by the smells.
Even though flying between LA and San Francisco is a relatively short distance, dealing with TSA can cause delays and be uncomfortable Red eyes is a drag.
Dreamstar’s new concept is to let travelers sleep in luxury in what is essentially a hotel on rails, where you can arrive well rested and get started running.
There have been no updates on ticket prices either, but our last report confirmed prices are somewhere between $300 and $1000, which probably won’t be better than Amtrak’s fares, but you can’t beat the plush amenities.
Is it worth the wait?
Traveling between LA and San Fran can be a headache, but you might wonder why you would want to visit either city considering that both have been targeted in negative headlines.
In recent years, every city has undergone what many consider a backward transformation.
A simple scroll through TikTok can show zombie-like streets, rampant crime and small business closures.
It remains to be seen whether both cities will reach their glory days again. While there are still many great places to visit, no traveler wants to have to keep their head on a swivel to enjoy their vacation.
For what it’s worth, National Geographic swears by LA’s comeback in 2025. But San Francisco?
Take a look at popular YouTuber Pete Santenello latest video in his quest to answer that question.
Spoiler alert: It looks like the Bay’s golden child is on the rise again.
No matter which California city you go to, you can leave the airport hassle, I-5 traffic, and half a day of travel in the rearview mirror.
