Traveling can be as addictive as it is expensive. And I have the bank balance to prove it!
But if you want to travel more without spending a fortune, one of the biggest ways to save money is to choose the right destination.
Choosing a travel destination that offers cheap hotel rooms, affordable on-site costs, and perhaps most importantly, cheap flights are all great ways to save money.
Dollar Flight Club has unveiled a list of the cheapest US destinations to fly to in 2025. This means that 2025 could be a big travel year without spending a lot of money.
Remark: I’m often a bit skeptical about these types of lists. However, Dollar Flight Club analyzed an entire year’s worth of flight data, took into account destinations with multiple origins and used seasonal travel data to look at air travel peaks as well.
Destinations were ranked based on the affordability of their airfares and the frequency of their flights and connections from major US hubs.
5. Nashville, Tenn. (BNA)
Nashville is the heart of the country and a paradise for music lovers. If you’re looking for old-fashioned Southern hospitality and a huge dose of charm, you’ve come to the right place.
As well as epic live music venues, you’ll also find incredible heritage architecture. The city’s growing arts scene means there are also an abundance of galleries and art exhibitions to enjoy.
The Dollar Flight Club report names Nashville fifthe most affordable destination in the US, with average flight prices of $190.
The best time to visit Nashville is in the spring, especially if you are a music fan, as that is when the city’s most famous music festivals take place.
With this advice in mind, I set out to find some sample prices for flights in April.
The cheapest flights currently available are from Chicago. Departure on April 1 and return on April 8 costs $178. This is based on economy class flights on American Airlines.
4. Austin, Texas (AUS)
Austin is a modern city with an old-world feel.
You’re sure to get a warm welcome here, and there’s also a thriving cultural and arts scene to immerse yourself in in the city.
Austin is known as the live music capital of the world, so if you’re looking for some of the best live music venues and festivals in the US, that’s another great reason to put Austin on your bucket list.
The best time to visit the city is in March, when the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival takes place.
The cheapest destination to fly from Austin is Denver, Colorado. Return flights from March 12 to March 19 costs $98. This is based on economy class flights on Frontier Airlines.
3. Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS)
As an adult’s playground, Las Vegas is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the US and one of the best domestic connections.
That explains why it took third place on this list.
Las Vegas is known for its casinos, mega resorts and hotels. But it has so much more to offer. Think a huge range of gourmet dining options and epic outdoor activities.
To take advantage of the cheapest flight and hotel prices, Dollar Flight Club recommends traveling in December and January.
Using this information, I looked at flights for January and found that San Francisco is the cheapest departure airport. Fly on January 8 and return on January 15 only costs $36 round trip.
This is based on an economy class ticket on Frontier Airlines.
2. Denver, Colorado (DEN)
Arrives in 2i.e place is Denver, a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
This is a town best known for its quality winter skiing nearby, but there are also great hiking trails here for you to enjoy in the summer months.
Looking for something more relaxing and, dare I say it, sedentary? Denver’s craft beer scene is highly regarded, so why not book a brewery tour or two?
The best time to visit depends on what you are looking for. Try March before the end of the ski season or late summer for hiking.
Return flights from Salt Lake City are available in March for only $39. This is based on flights from March 1 – March 8 on Frontier Airlines, flying economy class.
1. Orlando, FL (MCO)
Perhaps one of the most famous and iconic vacation destinations in the US, every child in the world dreams of visiting Orlando.
(And many adults want to heal their inner child, too!)
The big attractions are of course Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. But Orlando also offers world-class shopping, dining and outdoor activities.
According to Dollar Flight Club, average flight prices are $150, and the best time to visit is early January or early September to beat the crowds and demand.
Based on this, I searched for flight prices for January and found nonstop roundtrip flights from Atlanta with Spirit Airlines for $48. This was based on an economy class flight that departed on January 8 and returned on January 15.
The very cheapest flights were from Durham, North Carolina. Departure on January 7 and return on January 11 would cost $39. This is based on an economy class flight on Frontier Airlines.
