It exudes the charm of the Roman era, wonderful tea houses and picturesThrough the villages on the outskirts you will be drawn to an array of historic sights and, even more so, the wide choice of spas to melt away your stress, hence the name Bath.
Moreover, it is a lot cheaper than the sky-high prices in London.
Forget household names: how Bath differentiates itself
At first glance, Bath may not feel like a typical British city. In fact, it is relatively small in size, with a population of just 94,092 according to the latest census data.
With its grand Georgian architecture and Roman-style bathhouses, Bath is a far cry from London’s towering skyline and tourist-curated sights.
Bath is easy to explore on foot and is well served by bus and train from London, but while you’re here the best way to explore the sights is on electric scooters dotted around the city.
There is no place like Bath anywhere else in Britain. Of course there are other timeless gems such as the Cotswolds, but everything pales in comparison to what Bath has to offer.
Bath is a stunning city, perfect for relaxing and unwinding rather than cruising around London.
While there are certainly traditional pubs, Bath’s main draws are its spacious Roman spas that originally consisted of thousands of archaeological discoveries, many of which are open to the public to enjoy all the benefits of naturally warm hot springs, just as the Romans did.
The spas Bath must visit
With a name like Bath, you would be hard-pressed to find tourists who don’t enjoy a bathhouse.
While I am certainly no spa expert, I can attest to how relaxing and beneficial visiting such concepts can be, as I have visited Iceland’s famous Blue Lagoon, Istanbul’s traditional hammams, and I enjoyed both so much that I even made a point to visit a new hot springs resort in my home state of California.
I have not had the privilege of visiting Bath, but can totally agree with the enthusiasm of visitors like this review Thermae Bad Spa:
“Only thermal baths in the whole of Britain. Great to be in the rooftop pool with views over the countryside and the UNESCO World Heritage city!”
You can also reserve tickets for the Roman Baths Museuma fascinating tour of the ancient world.
According to TripAdvisor, these are travelers’ 3 favorite spas to visit in Bath:
- Thermae Bad Spa
- The Cross Bath
- The bath massage company
