Visit Puerto Vallarta in the near future?
You need to know that the entry rules change when you travel to the ultra -popular beach shot spot in Mexico in 2025, and if you think a valid passport will be sufficient to give you access, something else will be coming.
Soon enough, Puerto Vallarta will give a blow Admission price requirements for all foreign passengersIncluding Americans: In other words, unless you accept that you pay the required amount, you can be encouraged to go on holiday elsewhere.
This is on the heels of similar requirements that have been established in the United Kingdom and the European Union:

Americans will now have to pay a new fee to fly to Puerto Vallarta
When stated By the authorities of Jalisco, who rule Puerto Vallarta, Americans will have to pay a mandatory fee for landing in the Trendy Resort City after the Jalisco State Congress has approved an initiative to raise a new tax on incoming tourists.
But why do they do this? When will implementation take place, and how, and above all, How much is the tax?
You must pay the same reimbursement, regardless of how long you will stay

To answer the first part of the (long) question, it has been reported that the tax aims to generate ‘extra income’ for municipal development – other words, Americans, Canadians and other foreigners will (indirectly) contribute to infrastructure improvements in PV.
The reimbursement applies Regardless of the duration of stayWhether you are only in Puerto Vallarta for the long weekend or the entire week, and it will be collected in advance by means of an online portal or as part of the arrival process.
The designated platform will be launched soon, so that tourists can pay the reimbursement before they fly:
This is how the payment will work

It is not clear whether the check -in staff will maintain the rule at their departure point, but when they land they will have to show that proof of payment to border officers should be let through the door.
As an alternative, newcomers can be forwarded to payment player at landing on Puerto Vallarta International (PVR), where On-the-ground staff will ‘facilitate’ the process.
It is worth noting that this is not a digital visa, nor an electronic travel authorization, even though it is just as mandatory:
Americans can continue to fly to the Jalisco resort without any problems, without applying for a mandatory permit in advance, but they will only have access to Puerto Vallarta by showing proof of the prior payment of the tourist tax, or by paying the place.

Cruise Arrangements are not exemptor:
The payment of the tax will be enforced by the Integral Port Administration (API) of Puerto Vallarta in the main cruise port, and guests can only leave if they burst the dough.
Now, for the part that you all (impatiently) have waited: how much is the reimbursement?
This is how much the tourist tax of Puerto Vallarta costs
That’s the good news:
New access requirements for our favorite destinations are never tempting prospects, but in Puerto Vallarta the tourist tax is only 141 Mexican pesos, or About US $ 7 per person.

It has also been confirmed that it is a ‘one -off’ fee, so if we understood it correctly, you would not have to pay it again if you return to PV at a later date.
Do not ask us how they will know who is already taxed or not – – maybe they will add a little annotation under your stored passport data? Maybe you should save the proof of payment on your phone so that you have it at hand every time you fly to PV?
Who knows!
Payments can be made online or at the airport or port in:
- Cash (American dollars or Mexican pesos)
- Credit or payment cards
With regard to the implementation date, the measure is expected to come into effect within one month after the publication in the official Gazette of the state of Jalisco, At a certain point in March 2025.
Until now, authorities have not informed media as tourists who fly in from other Mexican destinations, such as Mexico City, remain subject to paying the reimbursement.
We will keep you informed as soon as the system goes live, and as soon as we know more details.
