The word ‘timeless’ came up in me when I already met Gilang Ghifari Lukman, left, and Medina Janneta El-Rahman on a ferry in Istanbul while I was on vacation in the city last November. Although it was months since we met, I thought of them when I was preparing to go to Europe for fashion shows this month.
They are the kind of stylish people that I always hope to meet when I am traveling – the kind that gives me the chance to break out my vintage Rolleiflex film camera, a model used by well -known fashion photographers such as Richard Avedon and Bert Stern And that nowadays I can’t use enough on the street.
Mr. Lukman, 27, and Mrs. Rahman, 25, living in Birmingham, England, and were on holiday in Istanbul. They told me that they always like to dress smartly. Both grew up in Indonesia and Mr Lukman said that his style was influenced by how people there dressed and the elegant fashion of the British Edwardian era.
His handsome bag was made of goat leather, he said, and sentimental to him: “It was bought with my very first salary of a dishwashing part-time job while studying in Kyoto.”
