Just as many of us take away the best places for a holiday, one of the world’s most premiere beach destinations is questioned … again.
At the beginning of 2024, the Bahamas and the US stopped a travel advice when the mostly safe island nation was startled with unbridled crime that apparently was out of nowhere.

As such, the Bahamas shot back and essentially stated that tourists were not goals for violent crime, which implied that no advice was needed.
Well, here we are again around the same time in 2025 and it does not seem that the messages has not changed that much with the latest advice from the US Department of Foreign Affairs.
More crime sticks, potential beach risks and some advice about what is certain not To take with you during your travels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a Level 2 Advice for the Bahamas.
2 travel warnings in 4 months – Reason for concern?

Normally one Level 2 Tag is nothing to work on or downright change of travel plans; It is simply valuable insight to include in the chance that you are in a sketchy situation.
Level 2 is a common designation. Punta Cana and Cancun – Both mega popular destinations mentioned as Level 2 And unlikely a lot of travel plans.
That said, it is not so often that the American embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs work so closely together, even unintentionally.
For example, we recently reported on a new alert for travel security for Peru. The embassy has issued the warning, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not (and still not) updated their advice for Peru since November 2023.

The fact that there was a publication in Nassau in Nassau in Nassau in December 2024 is therefore a separate travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, just under 4 months thereafter, regardless of the level of gravity.
In short, the embassy warned of potential crime waves. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is accurate in them New issued advice On March 31, 2025 it sounds like the ‘potential’ changed to reality.
For what it is worth, the aforementioned advice that caused bickering back and forth was issued in February 2024, followed by an embassy published alert in December 2024, and now another advice issued yesterday marks 3 travel warnings for an island that is typically deemed safe in just 13 months.
The Deets: What the US Department of Foreign Affairs warns of

Let’s dive into the details. It is important not to misunderstand any destination, especially one that is a hugely popular vacation spot where the locals are highly dependent on tourism to make ends meet.
According to the US Department of Foreign Affairs, these are the following places to be wary of ‘violent crime’:
Nassau:
- Avoid “Over The Hill” in Nassau, south of Shirley Street, due to a high presence of gang-related activities
- Violent attacks have been reported that take place in and around the center of Nassau beaches
In other words, You are completely safe at Atlantis. As soon as you leave, pay attention to your environment and remember You are no longer in Kansas.
Freeport:
- No specific destination was mentioned to avoid; Stay informed of your environment on all times when outside Freeport Resorts such as’ armed robberies, burglaries and sexual attacks can take place everywhere in the Bahamas, according to the US State Dept.

There are not only warnings for crime, but also potentially dangerous beach risks. The state department is to follow these tips among Americans when visiting Bahamian beaches:
Beach safety:
- Do not swim alone and beware of jetskis or other water scooters near the coast
- Stay aware of your environment, especially public toilets, because sexual attacks have been reported
- Know your physical limitations while swimming (swimmers drowned snorkelers)
- Be looking for sharks (shark attacks have unbearable injuries and causes death)
- Check weather reports and water conditions
What about renting boats and holiday homes
It is important to know that jetskis and boats are not properly regulated in the Bahamas.
Operators may not even be correct licenses, and what is even more alarming, are attacks by guides that have been reported in this area.

Circled back to one of the above suggestions, give some guides more to be paid than your safety and have exploited boats during unsafe weather, so if you Spidey-Senes Tell you that something doesn’t seem quite right, it’s best not to jump on board.
Regarding renting a holiday home, it is also important to be aware when and where security is present. You never know who is watching.
Which cannot be taken while traveling
It raises the question why someone would like to bring firearms to the Bahamas, a place that is not exactly known for hunting.
Speer fishing? Maybe. But do not grab heat on your flight here, not even a single round ammunition.

The state department reminds travelers Bahamian troops that the law of the law in this case maintains. Ironically, however, the crime levels of their own country reached a point to activate another travel advice – go figure.
Point is, if you don’t want to end up on a new season Locked up abroadKeep your second change rights in the country in which they belong.
