What do you think of when you think of Texas? If you imagine how Hollywood presents the Lone Star State, film and television are largely short.
There is more than met than Friday evening lights, Hootin ‘Hollerin’ Rodeos and John Deere tractors that work open fields.
Of course, the legend has ‘everything is larger in Texas’, and although that certainly gets married to inevitable oversized pick-up trucks and old-school poisonous masculinity egos, visitors must take advantage of fishing bowl Margaritas, Hulde Tex-Mex Plotteren, and the beating heart of Texas-the flag, each with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one with one.

Texas can even come across culturally unilaterally, but that could not be further from the truth with cities that are deeply ingrained in the Mexican heritage, such as San Antonio and El Paso, who break tourism boards.
Believe it or not, the ‘number one’ city in Texas actually offers more German flare Then the Mexican culture and it shines with inviting Emerald Rivers and Down-Home Charm Smack DAB between Austin and San Antonio for easy access.
Dam good! New Braunfels is the number one of Texas ” City
The Texas Travel Awards Walk a year behind and give different destinations for the winner every year to enjoy the distinction that he is crowned in the top city for a whole year.

We are about 4 months after 2025, but the Texas Travel Awards will call the winner of 2025 by the end of the year.
New Braunfels received the title of Destination of the year Before 2024, a small, historic city hugs that the Jade-Ribboned Guadalupe River that keeps Texans from everywhere in the state to visit, including myself.
As a born and raised Texaan, New Braunfels was our go-to-family holiday place to appease the needs of my parents to escape ‘go through’ mentality of the Jones of the Dallas burbs, while I kept my sisters and I entertained it on the Schlitterbahn Water Park, Tubing The Guadalupe, and jump on board the still complicated memory of boat trips with glass bottom in nearby San Marcos.

Tens of years later, Nieuwe Braunfels still meets the goal and still, because this wonderful city has grown enormously both literally and figuratively, whether it is more travelers who discover the timeless charm of Gruene, the always funny river adventures and festivals that celebrate the German heritage, and of course the New Fond Craze van BUC-EE’sThe world’s favorite gas station with Bever theme-a destination in itself.
Rustic village and German pleasures of new Braunfels
The first time that the 21-year-old pretended to be Boujee and Refined, was in the center of Nieuwe Braunfels, who took my (ex) girlfriend to a chic Shmancy-Wijnbar with a vague dining room and jazz soundtrack on a repeat.

That scene is certainly there if you are jam, but New Braunfels offers so much more than expensive wine in a tasteless environment that does not fit the general atmosphere of the city.
New Braunfels is more a beer drink in the city and there is no better starting point than GrueneA real postcard and closest to Texas has a time machine.
Gruene (pronounced as the color) has passed the test of time since the 1840s when German settlers founded this blip on the map.
Nowadays, visitors can enjoy a store, the famous Gruene Hall that has organized musical acts such as George Strait, countless rustic boutiques and my personal favorite, The flour mill Restaurant, on top of the flowing Guadalupe with a great view and even better Margaritas.

Even if you just continue from Austin to San Antonio or Vice Versa, don’t just stop at BUC-EEs; Also make time for Gruene.
But an event that you should definitely have in mind WurstfestCelebrating the German heritage of New Braunfel.
Oktoberfests are cool and such, but Wurstfest feels more locally than some tourist traps with a German theme that you will find elsewhere.
The next Wurstfest only takes place in November 2025, but it is worth waiting.
Amazing nature: Emerald Rivers & the ‘Maldives’ from Texas

Despite the fact that Austin has been converted into Dallas 2.0 in recent years, New Braunfels has long been an idyllic harbor to escape from the city list with picturesque Smaragd green that winds through the vast Texas Hill Country.
Although it is a common outing for the spring break for cheap students who could not afford gas money to Florida, we are now enough late in the spring to prevent the noisy crowd with “Woo!” Girls and splitting speakers.
Tubing the guadalupe is for all ages and one of my favorite memories of family holidays that grow up, but also just memorable from my student days – well, at least with the functional brain cells that I have left behind.

Texas Tubes Is the best tube rental company in New Braunfel on Google and even offers free parking!
For even more breathtaking waters, nearby Canyon Lake Is the ‘Maldives’ of Texas. The Meerwater is so unspoilt, it went viral on social media a few years ago.
There are several resorts with a view of Canyon Lake for those who want to make this surprising oasis in Texas as their base, but New Braunfels also offers numerous charming inns, including some with German roots such as Sophie’s Gasthaus Or if you take a day trip from San Antonio, choose a stay in one of my favorite hotels, the age -old Crockett Hotel – And don’t forget to grab your free cocktail!
