You may think that summer is the time of year to hit the beach, but over 200,000 passengers have opted for the midwest by rail, even in the grip of winter.
Lake Michigan is of course the ultimate Maas in the beach trips with blue waters just as lively as some hotspots in Florida and California.
But it is not necessarily the destination that is a big surprise; It is how travelers choose to cross this enormously underrated region of America, because cities such as Omaha, Des Moines and even Cleveland are often labeled as snoozefests.

Icons such as Chicago are a great starting point to explore not only this huge metropolis itself, but also adjacent states with epic day trips such as Indiana Dunes National Park, Milwaukee, or countless delicious small cities for an idyllic escape.
Amtrak’s Borealis The route has risen from/to Chicago, where travelers embrace the comeback of slow journeys instead of dealing with busy airports, real ID -requirements and most recently, failing communication systems that are not the most reassuring for nervous kites.
Explore Midwest Marvels: Chicago, Milwaukee & Understat St. Paul

Chicago expects a busy summer, as it should be. It is one of the most fascinating cities in America with cultural neighborhoods, phenomenal food, shopping of world class and sky -high luxurious hotels.
It is a magnet for all layers of life, attracting gourmets, loving couples, artists, solo travelers and anyone with 2 legs who wants to discover the hype of one of the largest playgrounds in America.
Summer is a good time to visit despite the humidity, because you can always pack in a beach day along the coast of Lake Michigan, but in reality more people opt for air conditioning huts to explore past the windy city.
The BorealisAmtrak’s newest sounding success, had an impressive first year and tickets still sell quickly as Wigley Field Hot Dogs.

The Route includes Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota, with stops in large cities of Chicago, Milwaukee (Including Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport), and closing in St. Paul, one of the most underestimated cities in America overshadowed by his ‘Twin’, Minneapolis.
Milwaukee is just an hour and a half from Chicago by train. It is in particular a refuge for beer lovers and has one of the most beautiful districts of the midwest along the picturesque river front. The capital of Minnesota shows a stunning architecture and has access to countless lakes, perfect for cooldowns in the summer.
You knew that the Los Angeles Lakers were initially in Minnesota, right?
Mix en route in wonderful small cities

In total, Borealis stops in 9 small cities (usually in Wisconsin). It doesn’t matter if you start in St. Paul or Chicago, the meat of the route is a passage through the US with a small town with timeless main strips, classic dinners and a real feeling of Americana often missed when you look at the ant-ant farm from a plane window.
On the way, these are the 3 most striking small city stops:
Red Wing, Minnesota: A historic city on the river surrounded with antique shops, old -fashioned inns such as St. James Hotel and lush nature in Frontenac State Park

La Crosse, Wisconsin: Pack your bike helmet while you explore the “Bicycle Capital of America” via natural locations such as Riverside Park or Hop on board a Boat Tour in Mississippi River; Check La Crosse’s Events page To perform lively festivals, including one of the largest October festivals in the midwest
Wisconsin Dells: Take the entire crew to the “Waterpark Capital of the World” and visit the postcard-worthy sandstone formations of the Wisconsin River
