Autumn is perhaps the best period to visit Cancun if you hope for smaller crowds and cheaper prices.
After all, the crowds of July and August have disappeared, hotels are deliberately the prices to attract more guests, and there are abundance of escape deals … Or are there?
For years, sun seekers have waited impatiently to book their Cancun holiday on September on September, knowing that they would get more value for money, but as the experts told us in 2025, this may no longer be the case.
‘Low’ and ‘High’ seasons are no longer existing concepts in the Caribbean Hub.
That’s one of the 4 things the Cancun SunThe leading independent English -language authority on all things Mayan Riviera has shared while we enter the (so -called) quieter months:

Cancun’s ‘Low Season’ is a thing of the past
If you are on your way to Cancun next season, the most important thing that you need to know is that those images of an abandoned hotel strip, with a wide availability of the first, grinds, the first served restaurants and open slots on tours, perhaps no longer are the case.
As they have noticed, ‘Low season’ now looks more like ‘less busy’. There are lower crowds than in the winter, that is certain, but if you visit at the weekend, you would have to expect a large influx of beach singing into public seaside resorts and partygoers come to the entertainment district.
Have been gone for a long time that you could just have it ‘by chance’ and book the last moment in the fall. Whether it concerns trendy restaurants, popular activities, such as a visit to Cenotes or Maya ruins or Spa agreements in your resort, you would be wise to secure places in advance.

Who will you share the resort with?
The Cancun Sun Also repeats that, despite the constant crowds, the type of crowd changes.
After all, schools in the United States and Canada have resumed lessons, so you can certainly expect that you will see fewer families with children and adolescents in Resorts. This helps to contribute to the overall mature, more relaxed feeling.
That said, you can never completely exclude that children run around and splash around in the swimming pool if everything you need is peace and quiet. Your fellow Americans may be gone, but there will be families from other parts of the world that do not work according to the American school schedule.
In those cases it is best to book a resort for adults alone. Here are some options, and their average nocturnal rate in September:
- Le Blanc Spa Resort-$ 706 per night
- Atelier Playa Mujeres- $ 708
- Excellence Playa Mujeres- $ 622 per night
- Live Aqua Beach Resort-$ 337 per night
- Royalton Chic Cancun- $ 257 per night

Deep discounts are over, but value can be found
As you may have noticed from the aforementioned averages, it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet those stunning, great hotel deals in Cancun.
Historically, September was notorious for its irresistible rates, usually from a 50% discount. In the words of the Cancun SunThis era is now ‘over’:
Admittedly, there is even better value In the fall compared to the winter period, but the rising demand of Cancun, not only from Americans, but travelers worldwide, led the prices to stay on a plateau instead of falling considerably.
When it comes to tours and private transport, you may even notice that there is no difference. Based on the expert advice, the best way is to save money to a ‘package deal’: there are still a lot of ‘5th night free’ and flight-and-hotel combos in the supply.

Navigating through the weather: Hurricanes and Sargassum
Last but not least we have the weather conditions. There is no way to go around it: September is a peak orchane season and you have to be prepared for tropical storms.
This does not mean that you will certainly experience a hurricane in September that will be visited in September, because the chance remains low, but if it happens, the city is probably one of the of the Best equipped in the Caribbean To tackle the phenomenon.
Resorts have their own hurricane codes and strict routines to ensure that guests remain safe in the (unlikely) event of a seriously disrupting hurricane, and you can always stay informed of hurricane announcements via the National Hurricane Center.
At the top you can count on much less Sargassum along the coastline.
All in all, the fall remains an unbeatable period for experiencing the more ‘chill’ side of Cancun – make sure you pack a raincoat. You know, in case it starts to cast hard exactly during your half -hour walk outside the resort site.
