If you thought the only worthwhile Caribbean escapes were the Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Jamaica, we’ve got news for you: There is much more to this paradise region than the same household names that everyone uses as standard.
Scattered across the Caribbean are countries that aren’t always treated as bona fide beach getaways, as if there’s nothing to do but waste the coast.
But one country with two islands can make an exception…

In fact, put St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Lucia on the back burner as trendy hotspots — there’s another destination that has earned a seat at the table.
Recently making headlines thanks in particular to Robert De Niro – yes, we’re talking to you – one of the safest getaways in the Caribbean is making a name for itself not only because travelers can recharge without keeping their heads to the ground, but also because of its impressive luxury resort scene, 365 beaches and a big increase in flights, making what was once a cruise destination much easier to get to.
Here are 4 reasons why Antigua and Barbuda has been booming in popularity lately:
1) Nobu & More: the ultimate escape to treat yourself

Many consider lesser-known islands as cruise stops; a place to explore for a limited time.
But instead of saying “been there, done that,” more and more travelers are embracing what this dynamic duo has to offer beyond the bustling harbour, surrounded by souvenir trinkets with “prizes just for you, my friend.”
It’s quite a job to tackle the household names mentioned above, but Antigua and Barbuda has done an impressive job of building an incredible resort scene where travelers want to kick back and stay a while on a zip-in, zip-out route and then return to their cruise ship’s mediocre accommodations.
Although the islands currently boast some impressive resorts on the Antigua side, such as some of Travel Off Path favorites such as:

- Hammock Cove Antigua (a 5 star adults only beachfront hotel with private villas)
- The veranda Antigua (An for adults only oasis located on a glittering bay with blue water)
- St. James Club (probably Antiguas most family friendly resort, located on a 100-acre retreat and recently updated)
- Pineapple Beach Club Antigua (from the island first ever all-inclusive resort with easy access to Antigua’s best excursions)
But there’s a new kid on the block who’s fashionably late to the party.
Ready for a launch ‘end of 2026’, Nobu Beach Inn Barbuda – believe it or not – was born from a long-held vision of Robert De Niro, co-founder of Nobu Hospitality, and plans to put Barbuda on the map.

Expect barefoot luxury on 1,000 acres and 2 miles of beach, with 36 spacious bedrooms across 17 villas, a beach club, an oceanfront pool, an indoor and outdoor spa, tennis and padel courts, the world-famous Nobu dining with a grill overlooking the ocean, and of course, a sushi bar that’s impossible to disappoint.
2) One of the world’s safest islands
Look, you might not think much about safety when planning a trip to the Caribbean, but there have been a number of shocking safety warnings issued over the years, including the Bahamas, which is typically seen as an extension of America, just a short hop from the US mainland.
Safety is an important aspect to investigate wherever you go, but you don’t have to worry about Antigua & Barbuda.

Not only does the US State Department classify this paradise on two islands with the lowest possible advisory of “Level 1: Practice normal precaution“Fellow travelers like you and I support them with a strong safety score of 85/100 on our own safety index:
3) 365 beaches: a different beach every day
Well, I feel stupid…
Here I have been hyping Ohrid, North Macedonia for its 365 churches, but being able to visit a new beach every day sounds much cooler – especially since I need forgiveness for my sins every day…

It’s true: Antigua and Barbuda has a different beach for every day of the year, if you stay that long.
However, according to the entry requirements, you have to take a double dip.
Americans are allowed to stay for a maximum of 180 days without obtaining a visa.
But enough with the boring bureaucracy, of all the 365 epic coastal gems you can visit, travelers have narrowed down their absolute favorites.
The latest TripAdvisor rankings show these 5 unspoilt coasts Antigua:
- Dickenson Bay
- Valley Church Beach
- Ffryes Beach
- Darkwood Beach
- Half Moon Bay

But hold the phones…
That’s just the Antigua side…
Here are the same TripAdvisor rankings for Barbuda:
- Princess Diana Beach
- Pink sandy beach
- 17 miles of beach
- Coco point
- Palmetto point
And if you think about it, having hundreds of options reduces the chance of encountering record swamps sargassum this summer.
4) New flights = new hype
The reason why so many people choose a Caribbean cruise is that you can visit so many amazing places where there are no flights.

The region is notorious for small airports with minimal connections, but Antigua and Barbuda have been to grow for fellow Caribbean countries, especially American and Canadian sun worshipers.
Currently flight connections shows 5 valid US routes to St. John’s, Antigua (ANU):
- Atlanta (ATL)
- Miami (MIA)
- Charlotte (CLT)
- Newark (EWR)
- New York (JFK)
Moreover, so is WestJet to revive the Toronto-Antigua flight on Wednesdays for July and August, in addition to the existing Sunday service from Toronto (TOR).
