Are you looking for the most affordable digital nomad destinations in Thailand?

I’ve got you covered with this list! Thailand is one enormous popular destination for digital nomads thanks to its affordable prices, beautiful landscape and friendly people (it’s not called the Land of Smiles for nothing!)

Americans can now stay in Thailand visa-free for up to two months, making it even more attractive to digital nomads. And the country is in the process of launching a five-year digital nomad visa if you want to make Thailand your permanent home.

The good news is: you can live everywhere in Thailand for less than $2,000 a month, and you should be able to live well with that.

But what if you have an even tighter budget? Maybe you’re new to the digital nomad lifestyle and are living off savings while you get started. Or maybe you’re going to work online for a lower salary, or you just want to save as much money as possible.

Then it is even possible to live in Thailand less than $1,000 one month.

In some places this is easier to do than others. According to data from Nomad listthese are the best and cheapest destinations for digital nomads in Thailand.

1. Chiang Mai

One of the best digital nomad hubs in Thailand happens to be the most affordable! You can live in Chiang Mai for just a few euros $979 per month for one person.

Chiang Mai is a city in the mountains of Northern Thailand. It is less humid than the rest of Thailand and can have a milder climate, making it an ideal place to live.

For digital nomads, the Nimmanhaemin neighborhood is without a doubt the best neighborhood to live in. You’ll find plenty of modern apartments with amenities like gyms and rooftop pools, as well as cafes and coworking spaces – Yellow Coworking is very popular!

2. Koh Lanta

Most Thai islands are a little more expensive than the mainland, but Ko Lanta is the most affordable island for digital nomads if you dream of living close to the beach.

The average cost of living in Ko Lanta is $1,193 per month, but you can keep that under $1,000 if you’re willing to stay in accommodation with fewer vibrations and limit expenses.

It’s worth living and working in paradise!

3. Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is another city in northern Thailand that is super affordable, with the average cost of living coming in at just over $1,000. $1,026 per month.

It’s a smaller city than Chiang Mai, so it’s a good option if you’re looking for a place to base yourself that’s a little less touristy and has more of a local feel.

Chiang Rai is a great city for culture (you can’t miss the city’s impressive temples such as the White Temple and the Blue Temple!) And it is a gateway to the beautiful surrounding countryside.

4. Pai

If cities aren’t your thing at all and you’re looking for a quieter place to base yourself, look no further than Pai. Bee $1,092 per month, this beautiful small town in the mountains of Northern Thailand is an affordable place to live.

It is very popular with tourists because it has become something of a hippie paradise. The landscape of the surrounding mountains is also unbeatable.

Two of the best places to work in Pai are Two Huts Cafe and Om Garden Cafe – both have tasty menus and unbeatable views!

5. Udon Thani

Finally, Udon Thani is the cheapest place for digital nomads in Thailand. You can live approximately here $879 per month.

This medium-sized city is off the main tourist route in Thailand, but it is a very liveable city for digital nomads, and is full of beautiful temples and architecture.

It’s also just a 1.5-hour drive from Vientiane, the cool capital of neighboring Laos.
