3.Panama

The welcome: To 180 days.
Why stay longer? Panama is the ultimate bridge between North and South America, and 180 days allow us to experience its dual personalities. You can live the metropolitan life for months in Panama City’s Casco Viejo, before retreating to the cloud forests of Boquete or the Caribbean islands of Bocas del Toro. Panama is also a favorite for ‘test driving’ a potential retirement spot.
4. Canada

The welcome: To 6 months.
Why stay longer? Our vast northern neighbor is too big for a quick weekend getaway. Six months allow us to experience the changing of the seasons – perhaps starting with a summer on the coast of Nova Scotia and ending with the first snowfall in the Rockies of Banff or Whistler. Most US citizens automatically get the full six months when they drive or fly across the border, making this one of the easiest long-term moves you can make.
5. Barbados

The welcome: To 6 months.
Why stay longer? Why rush a Caribbean paradise? Barbados is one of the most hospitable islands for Americans, offering 180 days of visa-free travel. This is perfect for those who want to really settle into the Bajan lifestyle, from the surf breaks of the Soup Bowl to the historic streets of Bridgetown. Don’t forget to complete your digital arrival card 72 hours before landing.
6. Colombia

Once your first 90 days are almost over, you can request an extension online at Migration Colombia. This gives us six months to master salsa in Cali, work remotely from the eternal spring of Medellín and explore the coffee farms of Salento.
7. Peru

The welcome: To 183 days.
Why stay longer? Peru is a culinary and archaeological powerhouse. While many people rush for a four-day trek to Machu Picchu, a six-month stay allows us to base ourselves in the Sacred Valley or explore the hidden beaches of the north. As in Mexico, the immigration officer will determine the length of your stay at the border (between 30 and 183 days), so we recommend that you be clear about your intention to stay for the full duration to secure the maximum stamp.
