In some parts of the world, art valuation and the arts sector is often seen as something exclusively for the upper classes of society. Lagos Art Salon is on a mission to change this perception, by demystifying and democratizing art; while at the same time serving art lovers.
Organized by Teal Culture, a leading interior design and art consultancy, the 2024 edition of Lagos Art Salon took place from Thursday, November 28 to Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Teal Culture on Victoria Island, Lagos.
Lagos’ vibrant art community came alive during the 5-day art exhibition themed Art Unmasked. The exhibition showed the depth and diversity of Nigerian artistry and left an indelible impression on all those present.
Day 1 of the event started with a private viewing bringing together selected art lovers and enthusiasts. Guests enjoyed exclusive first looks at the stunning pieces, live music and delectable cuisine, while interacting directly with the artists who provided insight into their work.
The exhibition featured a curated selection of paintings, sculptures and mixed-media installations, providing attendees with a rich range of artistic explorations.
The event attracted an impressive turnout, including art collectors, creatives, arts influencers and members of the local arts community. Guests experienced an immersive environment where each artwork was carefully displayed to encourage interaction and reflection.
Day 2 saw the Art Unmasked Master Class, an educational session designed to demystify art investment and its potential as an asset. The masterclass was moderated by Omotunde Ibironke and featured panelists such as Niyi Adenubi (Financier and Art Patron, Co-founder of VFD Group Plc.), Ato Prinze (renowned art sculptor) and Tola Akerele (CEO of the National Theatre). Attendees ranged from seasoned collectors to new enthusiasts, all of whom learned valuable strategies for acquiring and preserving art.
In addition to the masterclass, attendees were treated to guided tours and insightful conversations with the artists present. The evening concluded with a networking session, promoting connections within the artistic and cultural sector.
The exhibition was open to the public from Saturday, November 30 to Tuesday, December 3, providing a space where visitors could immerse themselves in the creative expressions of the artists present:
- Main artists: AbdulRazaq. A. Titilayo, Usman Semiu Alvin, Omolola Coker and Segun Akano.
- Resident artists: Saheed Adelakun, Nathalie Kassi and Orlu Prins Mozes.
