If you are looking for a Caribbean holiday that feels like your own private paradise, it’s time to view Miches!
I remember reading a few years ago about this new emerging resort zone in the Dominican Republic and wondered how it would stack with Punta Cana. ((Spoiler alert, it’s great!))
This destination under the radar in the Dominican Republic is far enough from the busy resort zones to be a refreshing escape, while it is still close enough for the airport, no hassle to get.
We recently spent a few days Viva Miches by WyndhamA Brand new all-inclusive Resort along the untouched coasts of Playa Esmeralda. To be honest, It was all we didn’t know we needed.
I came back and felt more rested, charged and inspired than in a long time. It was the kind of journey that stays with you after you returned home, and I hope to be able to visit one day again.

A great welcome
From the moment we arrived, Viva Miches wanted to get into a different world. The lobby is big, open -air and flooded with natural light.
There is immediately a feeling of calm when you enter. Checking in was a breeze. We were warmly welcomed, offered a quick overview of the resort and were on the way to our room within a few minutes of arrival.
Even better? Someone brought our luggage directly to the room in front of us, making that first moment of vacation completely stress -free.

A beach that connects you again
The first thing my eyes caught when we approached our room (and set the tone for everything else) was the beach.
Miles soft sand, no crowds in sight and soft waves stared back at me. I already knew where I would spend all my free time before we even saw our room.
Later in our journey we would walk for centuries, float in the warm water and even enter the bay on a catamaran with one of the friendly guides of the resort. He shared stories about his life divided between Italy and the Dominican Republic. It reminded me of how traveling this magical way has to connect people from different angles of the world.
On one of our afternoons we hung around in the ocean with new friends, sipping the drink of the day (a delicious passion fruit cocktail) before we lounge in the jacuzzi when the rain started to fall. The atmosphere was cozy and spontaneous and it felt like a movie.
But I am at the front of myself here … If you can’t say it, the beach impressed! But Viva Miches is so much more than just the beach.

Comfortable rooms with views
Once we were in our room on the second floor, we got a dreamy setup.
Two queen beds, a huge walk -in shower and a private bar where we watched the sunset almost every night. It was peaceful, super cozy and really difficult to leave.
If you stay on the first floor, you have a “Splash” room with your private -dipping bath.
Each room is decorated with natural textures and calming earth tones that are very good with the environmentally conscious atmosphere of the resort.
And although our room was incredible, it was the rest of the resort that really blew us away.
Eat that surprise and pleasure
All-inclusive food can be hit or wrong, but Viva Miches really impressed us. Every meal felt well thought out and tasteful, from the buffet to the restaurants of à la carte.
Our seafood dinner Atlantis stands out in my memory. I started with salmon, continued to a beautifully boiled red snapper and ended with flan that I wanted me to have the recipe.
Another evening when you Fusion Eastern Restaurant, the chef blinded us at the Teppanyaki table with his showmanship while cooking just before our eyes. Afterwards the dessert was served on a more intimate table directly behind us, which added a touch of exclusivity to experience.

We also have the Latin merger Restaurant, where I had followed a Mexican burrito by grilled Brazilian skewers. The food was consistently great and we thought it was great how every meal felt like an experience.
But the real highlight was our private beach dinner. The sand was lit with candles, rope lights above us twinkle and soft saxophone music that was played live added an emotional layer to the night.
It was surreal, intimate and something that I will never forget. If you celebrate something special, this is the surprise to plan.

One comment about dining/drinking: Because the resort is so new, some staff still learn the ropes. When ordering drinks, we had to point out the menu occasionally because bartenders were not familiar with certain cocktails or ingredients were missing. It was in no way not a deal-breaker and their kindness has always made up for it, but it is worth being patient and going with the current.
Adventure, wellness and everything in between
This trip was not just about lounging. We found the perfect mix of pleasure and relaxation.
Our second day started with a tour of the building, including the Spa, the sports bar that transforms into a nightclub and even a taste of the sauna.
We received a coupling massage (head, shoulders and back) and it was one of the most relaxing experiences we had in a long time.
The next morning we went on a complete excursion. It started with a picturesque boat trip on Laguna Limón, followed by a stop at the rice fields, where we saw a few cute kittens.

Then we traveled a cocoa and coconut farm, tried freshly made hot chocolate, sampled local coffee and watched a cigar rolling demonstration. We packed it with a trip to Montaña Redonda. Although it was raining, we managed to get a few minutes of views before a thick cloud came in. Pro -Tip: If you want to try the zipline at the top, take extra money with you, because it is not included.
We also made an ATV tour through the rice fields and to the beach. It was exciting and gave us some of the best photos of the trip. Quite this experience for a fun morning out!

After lunch that day we took a catamaran from the resort, led by staff. It is free to use if you stay there, and if you are not sure how to sail yourself, they take you for a turn.
Even our downtime was special, such as watching a stunning sunset from our balcony or playing a swimming pool during a quick rain shower.
Everything felt easy and fun the way a vacation should be.
A resort that is doing well
One thing that was clear was that Viva Miches is committed to sustainability.
As part of the Wyndham Green program you will see efforts such as solar panels, water mounting stations and support for local nature conservation, including a protection program for sea turtles called Protortuga.
The design of the resort reflects the same care. Outdoor spaces, airy walkways and a natural color palette that makes the beauty of Miches shine without distraction.
We have really appreciated the water mounting stations and used them several times a day. It felt much better than having to call the reception for plastic bottles of water to be raised.

Getting there is easy
We flew to Punta Cana International Airport, and from there it was about a 90 -minute drive away.
The resort coordinated everything, including a note under our door that confirms our departure time. It was seamless.
Punta Cana airport was also a pleasant surprise. Security was fast and modern, without having to remove electronics or liquids, and if you have a priority pass, there is even a lounge with a swimming pool!
It is a fun, quirky way to end your journey, make sure you have dry clothing to change for your flight!

The reset we didn’t know we needed
There is a difference between a holiday and a complete reset. This was a reset.
Miches, and especially Viva Miches by Wyndham, gave us a break of the flow of daily life. It gave us time to breathe, connect and remember what is the most important. I came home and felt energetic, present and full of gratitude that you only get from truly meaningful experiences.
So if you dream of an escape where the beach is quiet, the drinks are cold and the beauty feels untouched, this is your place.
