When you hear the statistics about the new AVA Resort Cancun, a certain type of skepticis is of course. With more than 1,600 rooms, according to every definition, it is a really massive feature. For seasoned travelers, ‘solid’ can often be a code word for long lines, impersonal service and that feared ‘combustion and carting’ mentality where you feel more like a song than as a guest.
We at Travel Off Path visited our honest part of the MegaResorts, so we went to see the building with a healthy dose of skepticism and expect to experience a number of these growing pins with large resort.
We were wrong. In fact, we were completely surprised.
The AVA Resort Cancun is that rare unicorn in the world of hospitality: a mega resort with the intimate soul and lively heartbeat of a boutique hotel. The ability to provide both epic scale and personalized service is downright remarkable, and it immediately established itself as a top class in the luxury all-inclusive space.
The heartbeat of the resort: the Promenade ❤️
The true genius of the AVA and the secret of its unique atmosphere can be found at the most important level. Everything – and we mean everything—S is located on a beautiful, air -conditioned indoor promenade that extends more than half a mile over the entire length of the resort.
This brilliant design choice solves the biggest problem that teases other gigantic resorts: navigation. Beyond are the days of deciphering confusing cards, getting lost on winding outdoors or waiting ten minutes for a golf cart to eat. At AVA there is every restaurant, bar, shop and activities entrance there on the Promenade. It is the central nervous system of the resort, making it incredibly easy to get your bearings.
But it is more than just useful. This layout creates an incredible, dynamic energy. In the evening the promenade comes to life. You can walk from a high-end cocktail bar to a chic boutique, grab a ball of authentic gelato, listen to the music flows from a restaurant and window hop, all in climate-controlled bliss. It feels like the lively royal promenade of a luxury cruise ship, but on a much larger and more luxurious scale. It encourages exploration and allows you to crack and view people, creating a sense of community and excitement that is simply lacking in other resorts where facilities are spread over hectares of land.
You will not be bored: a deep dive in the activities 🎳
Although the AVA is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the airport, it is not in the bustling hotel zone. The consideration for this relative insulation? An absolutely amazing range of activities on location that make it almost impossible to get bored. You could really spend a full week here and not experience everything that the resort has to offer. The list is almost overwhelming:
- For the sensation seeker: A full-scale laser tag arena, an ultramodern arcade with racing simulators, and even an escape room experience with several rooms.
- For the family (or children in heart and soul): A slender, modern bowling alley that feels more like a private lounge.
- For the evening: A stunning, professional theater with nocturnal shows and entertainment.
- For practical needs: A collection of chic stores, a “tienda” for various and snacks, and a well -filled pharmacy.
This is all before you even step outside.
Polish, a lagoon and endless sun loungers ☀️
The outdoor space at AVA is just as impressive as the interior. A series of absolutely gigantic swimming pools extends over the entire length of the building, which means that you are never far from a place to cool down. And for everyone who has experienced the dreaded ‘towel game’ of 6 hours in other resorts, you can breathe in a sigh of relief. There are literally thousands of comfortable sun loungers available at all hours of the day. Finding a great place is never a problem.
However, the real showstopper is the vast lagoon of salt water. This is a huge, crystal clear water from water powered by sustainable technology that offers a perfect, protected environment for water sports. We brought an afternoon kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (of course, of course included) in the quiet, turquoise water. In the middle of the lagoon there is a huge, inflatable obstacle course, and yes, the adults had just as much fun as the children. Ensure that younger members of the Families Have their own piece of paradise, the resort has a vast children’s park with several slides designed for endless Aquatic pleasure.
The “familia” feeling: service, dining and rooms 🍽️
This is where the Ava really defies its size. You hear the staff use the floor “Familia” Much, and it’s not just a marketing slogan; It is a philosophy that clearly runs through the veins of the resort. From the bartenders to the servers to the caretaker, every interaction feels personal, warm and genuine.
The Food and Beverage program is an important highlight. With 17 restaurants and bars, the quality and variety are exceptional. The Black iron Steakhouse serves incredible ribeyes, tenderloin and New York comics that are all included in your stay. Service at PorchThe beautiful Italian restaurant, was flawless and attentive – and trust us, we are picky. The breakfast of the room was warm, fresh and exactly on time. And after dinner, a stop in the Gelato store for one of their endless flavors became a nightly ritual.
The rooms themselves are spectacular. Every room at AVA is OceanfrontSo there are no bad views. The beds are huge and incredibly comfortable, the robes are luxurious soft and the facilities are from top class, to the Nespresso machines in the room. The minibar is of course fully filled and supplemented daily.
The only warning and the last judgment
So is it perfect? In almost every way, yes. But because of a completely transparent assessment, we have to mention one area where the Cancun Hotel Zone has a lead: the beach. The sand at AVA is soft and the area is well maintained, but due to the location it can be heavily influenced by seaweed during the Sargassum season, and the water does not have the almost impossible electric blue color that you will find further along the coast.
However – and this is a big one – the incredible swimming pools of the resort and the huge, perfectly swimming lagoon more than make up. For a resorter experience this is complete, it is a trade -off that we would like to make again.
So, do we recommend it? Absolutely, and without hesitation. It is a real, luxurious 5-star all-inclusive experience that can somehow feel both epic and intimate at the same time. The AVA has its service to a science, and we dare to say that it is an important new competitor for legacy mega resorts such as Moon Palace. And that is very exciting for Cancun.
