When it comes to my nails, I am pretty bad about leaving hangnails (those small pieces of torn skin near your cuticles) alone. It is like a coercion that I have to peel them back or try to rip them instead of just waiting until I can go to a cuticle trimmer to cut them off.
One of my favorite things about getting the occasional manicure is when they add a layer of nail oil at the end of the session to nourish and hydrate the skin around your cuticles to prevent those annoying hangnails in the first place, and every time I think: “Oh wait, I forget that I can do that at home too!”
Making your own nail oil is super simple and I have added some lavender and rose geranium essential oils, because they are both anti-inflammatory (which is great for the skin), and geranium also has cellular processing properties.
Supplies:
–Sweet almond oil
-Vitamin E (Optional)
–Lavender essential oil
–Prose Geranium Essential oil
– Plint nail polish bottle
–Klein funnel (I used the smallest in this set)

Pour 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil into your nail polish bottle using your small funnel and also add a few drops of vitamin E oil oil.
Keep the funnel in it and add 4 drops of lavender oil and 4 drops of rose geranium oil.

Screw your cap again and shake well to combine. Store your oil in a cupboard or somewhere away from the light to keep your oils effective for the longest period.
Wipe the Polish brush with the oil in a “U” shape around your cuticles to use and let the oil sit on the skin for a few minutes if possible before gently rub it with your fingers.

A good way to keep your cuticles fed is by doing a layer of oil at the end when you paint your nails (what if you are like I can be 2-3 times a week). By adding this oil to your nail routine, you are less likely to forget this important step and you will thank yourself by avoiding all those painful hanging nails later.
Make a few bottles at the same time to spend as gifts or to have a girl’s night to make one yourself while you do some Mani/Pedis together and try a golden star or hologram manicure (and you can also go for an oil if you want a prepared). Have fun! XO. Laura
