It’s that time of year again when we start thinking about buying Christmas presents. And I don’t know about you, but for me it feels like it gets harder and harder every year to think of gifts that go to the right place. Luckily, Adidas came to the rescue. Because if you’re looking for a gift that suits everyone, the Adidas Campus 00s family sneakers tick all the boxes.
I have two teenage children: a son of seventeen and a daughter of fifteen. Now, my daughter is pretty easy to buy into, most girls are, right? But teenage boys and husbands are a whole different story anyway. So yeah, coming up with ideas isn’t exactly the easiest thing.
You can tell from the title of my post that I’m calling these adidas Campus 00s family sneakers. That’s clearly not their legal name – I added the “family trainers” section in full. But you’ll see why when you read the rest of the post.
Adidas Campus 00s Sneakers
I’ve been an Adidas girl since I was a teenager in the 90s. Back then, girls trainers were all about the classic black and white Gazelles. I saved money from my job at a highway gas station so I could order them from my mother’s catalog. And when I finally got them, I vividly remember how cool I felt wearing them for the very first time.
That is the case with adidas, and especially with their shoes it evokes a feeling. I’m pretty sure if you asked anyone, they could tell you exactly when they got their first pair of Adidas sneakers, what color they were, and where they were when they first wore them. It’s just one of those iconic life moments.
Because trainers are very important as a teenager. They make a statement. And that continues into adulthood, just in a slightly different way.
Remember earlier when I said I’m calling these the adidas Campus 00s family trainers? Well, let me explain.
You see, there aren’t many things a teenager would feel comfortable wearing and that he or she would also be happy with their parents wearing. There’s no way my teenage son could be seen dead in the same hoodie as, say, my husband. That would be classified as wildly uncool. Almost to the point of unforgivable. And yet there’s something so effortlessly cool about the adidas Campus 00s family sneakers that they somehow bypass this rule and it’s allowed.
It’s hard to find a shoe that transcends all ages, and yet the Campus 00s succeed. And so I ordered a pair for all of us.
It’s all about the colors
The best thing about adidas sneakers is that they always come in so many different colors. This means that if you decide to equip the whole family with it, you can at least ensure that everyone gets a different color.
These are the colors we ordered:
- Me – Gray Three / Cloud White / Off White
- Husband – Beige / Almost Yellow / Core White
- Son – Olive Strata / Cloud White / Off White
- Daughter – Earth layers / Core white / Earth layers
The same shoes, but subtle enough to be different. There’s me, who’s usually a safe white person or… black sports shoes girl, but in this case I chose gray to blend the two together. There’s my husband who loves classic brown and is happy with anything as long as it matches his favorite jeans. There’s my son who picked the boys trainers in olive green, to get that urban street vibe so it can look cool at college. And then there’s my daughter, the queen of pastels and all things summery, who chose yellow sneakers to add a cheerful pop of color to her outfits.
And yes, they are the same sneakers, but when you see them together in a photo, they each make a completely different statement on their own. This means we can all leave the house at the same time while wearing them, and none of us have a problem with it!
Everything you need to know about Adidas Campus 00s
The original Campus design, or Tournament as it was first called, was first released in the late 1970s. And in the 1980s the name was changed to Campus. So you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Campus 00s were an updated version released in the 2000s. But they haven’t been around that long (they actually came out in 2022).
The reason they are called Campus 00s is because they take style inspiration from the skater aesthetic that existed at the time. And when you look at the trainers, it’s easy to see why.
From the deep, chunky sole, the wide laces and the overall improved proportions of the shoes, the Campus 00s certainly exudes a laid-back energy reminiscent of skater youth. Some people dismiss them because they look a bit like clown shoes, a bit clumsy and maybe even cartoonish in appearance. But in a way that’s part of their charm.
They’re big, they’re exaggerated, but that’s kind of the point. They are made to be worn with big baggy jeans and slouchy wide leg trousers, because that is the lookbook. And with that comes comfort. Oh my god, what extreme comfort. These sneakers are really like putting on a pair of comfortable slippers. A pair of slippers that you can wear outside and that also look cool. I mean, who cares what the teenagers think about them, this is a middle-aged woman’s dream!
The suede is of good quality, don’t forget to spray them with some suede protector if you want to wear them in all weather conditions, and especially if you choose a light color like me and my daughter. Oh, and each pair comes with an extra pair of white laces, so you can switch up how they look with each outfit.
What sets the Adidas Campus 00s family trainers apart for me is their timeless design and all-day comfort. You’ve combined retro vibes with casual comfort, I mean it’s no wonder it appeals to teens and parents alike.
I mean, there’s no denying it, they just look really cool, right?! I love the retro, I love the overall aesthetic, and I love that I can be with the kids and they have no problem with me being there with them.
So listen, if you’re a parent who misses the days of matching Christmas pajamas or the ability to dress your kids in mini-me versions, then buying a pair of adidas Campus 00s for the whole family is totally the way to go this Christmas.
