Every now and then a TV show or movie becomes so popular that it creates a whole new trend in the travel industry.
Whether it concerns the enormous success of Frozenwhich led to tourists flocking to a small town in Austria, or now where large numbers of tourists are making their way to Montana due to the success of Yellowstone.
It’s easy to understand why people do this, as the entertainment industry is designed to allow us to escape reality.
That’s an important reason for wanting to travel in the first place, right? The unfortunate fact is that no matter how hard we try to immerse ourselves in a compelling story; ultimately we must return to reality.
Furthermore, these destinations may not match your expectations because they are formulated in a way that makes for a great story but is not intended to put a place on the map.
Whatever the case, it’s happening, and Montana is the latest place to see a surge in popularity, largely due to entertainment influences.
Yellowstone or Yellowstone?
What comes to your mind when you read the word ‘Yellowstone’? Is it the gigantic TV show about the fictional Dutton family, or is it the beautiful national park that millions of people flock to every year?
Anyway, Montana is booming! Yellowstone the show and Yellowstone the park are both located in Montana.
In fact, it’s likely that the show helped increase the number of visitors to one of America’s most beautiful national parks.
That’s not the only place the show has influenced travelers to visit – it’s the entire state! Given the huge success of the show, with multiple seasons to watch, Montana has seen an influx of visitors throughout the year.
Stores across the state are selling cowboy hats and clothing to tourists so they can look just like the Duttons on Instagram.
Common misconceptions About Montana
It is reported that tourists, inspired by looking at Yellowstone, are coming to Montana and booking ‘Dude Ranches’.
While that suits the old-fashioned, simple way of life of Yellowstone projects, some misconceptions exist.
It’s hard to argue with Montana’s beauty; it is beautiful at every turn. Even the small towns have such a unique charm.
One recent one guy farmer was quoted as saying: “It’s as beautiful as I thought it would be. Why would anyone want to live anywhere else?”
That may be a valid point of view, but many travelers don’t take Montana’s brutal winters into account. Yellowstone may portray a picture-perfect ranch life cozying up to a campfire, but the appeal often fades when the frigid temperatures roll in.
Montana may be a great place for fall, but winters can be tough unless you like the slopes.
Boz Angeles
Bozeman has long been a haven for those in the know. But now the state has become more mainstream, making one of Montana’s treasures even more popular.
So much so that the city of Bozeman has since adopted the nickname “Boz Angeles” by many west coasts have found their way here.
The charming city is often mentioned in the show and has further elevated the status of the city. Locals are conflicted between boosting the economy while fighting to preserve the state’s pristine beauty.
Should you choose to visit a city in Montana, Bozeman is the right place. Although home to just over 50,000 residents, this trendy little city is definitely worth a visit on your itinerary.
Outdoor tourism is flourishing
Many of Yellowstone’s scenes were filmed in the summer, showcasing Montana’s beautiful scenery.
Whether it’s postcard-worthy Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, or just enjoying the views of the back roads, Montana is a sight to behold.
It would be difficult to visit Montana without enjoying the outdoors. After all, it’s nicknamed “Big Sky.”
Common activities include fishing, hiking, camping and horseback riding, which are reminiscent of the show. Whatever you decide to do, Montana wants to remind tourists that the country is seemingly untouched in many areas.
They would like to keep it that way. Wildlife encounters are also possible, so it is best to view animals from a distance.
