Wake up, TikTok! Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s new film, is out today. For her eighth film, the director focuses on the story of Elvis’ other half, Priscilla, played by Cailee Spaeny. It is based on Elvis and methe 1985 biography written by Priscilla with Sandra Harmon, and takes us on a journey through the woman’s life.
While the highs and lows of the fast-burning romance remain the focus of the film, we couldn’t help but notice how Priscilla’s style also changed during her relationship. Before her courtship with Elvis, Priscilla’s hair was not only three shades lighter, but her outfits were also much more school-appropriate (she was 14 when she met Elvis), with lots of cardigans and pleated skirts. After moving to Graceland, she underwent a makeover when Elvis started dressing her, and she started wearing a lot more blue and more mini dresses. During her long periods away from Elvis, she enjoyed shopping and bought lots of pink, red and floral prints – much to Elvis’s dismay. “Blue is your color,” Elvis said, most likely because it was the color of her eyes. Towards the end of the marriage in the 1970s, Priscilla returned to her natural hair color and also began to incorporate more trousers into her wardrobe, in keeping with the times.
