It was the surprise no one saw coming: At tonight’s Grammy Awards, beloved superstar Celine Dion took the main stage to present Taylor Swift with the award for Album of the Year. The unexpected performance marked the French-Canadian singer’s first performance since being diagnosed in 2022 with rigid-person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disease that reportedly affects only one in a million people. “When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it, from my heart,” Dion said on stage. “Those blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards should never take for granted the immense love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people around the world.”
For the past two years, Dion has quietly stepped away from the spotlight as she continues to struggle with her SPS disorder, which can cause muscle stiffness and painful spasms. “Unfortunately, the spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing problems when walking and preventing me from using my vocal cords to sing as I normally would,” Dion told her fans in an Instagram video. Due to the rare condition, Dion cancelled all her tour dates in 2024 while she focuses on her physical health.
But at tonight’s Grammys, Dion made a triumphant return to life in the spotlight, and she did so by reviving one of her many talents: being a style icon, of course. Working with stylist Law Roach – who worked with Dion in 2016 and helped cement her status as a fashion darling – the star wore an elegant Valentino couture camel coat for the occasion, styled over a pink chiffon dress (also from Valentino) and dazzling crystal necklace. The audience understandably received Dion with rapturous applause.

Dion’s Grammy performance tonight was perhaps the most heartwarming spot of the night, although it’s not the only moment fans should look forward to. Last month it was announced that there will be an upcoming documentary titled I am: Céline Dion-shall coming soon to Amazon Prime; The film will follow the singer’s life in music while raising awareness of people with SPS.
