Mexico City Conagua has issued a weather forecast warning for CDMX due to the high temperatures expected in the capital on Saturday, March 9, and due to the low morning temperatures. Therefore, the authorities of Mexico City have asked the population to take the necessary precautions to avoid any form of respiratory illness and to use sunscreen.
In this regard, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the chance of rain in Mexico City is zero during the day and 1% during the night. Similarly, cloud cover will be about 30 percent during the day and only 13 percent at night. Temperatures in this region are forecast to reach a maximum of 30 degrees and a minimum of 9 degrees. The ultraviolet radiation is expected to reach levels up to 10.
Temperatures in the Riviera Maya can reach 40 degrees Celsius
The State Civil Protection Authority has issued an advisory in response to rising temperatures in the state. This advice follows closely after the predicted arrival of a cold front on Monday.
The State Civil Protection (Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil QRoo or Coeproc) notes that the local weather forecast indicates that daytime temperatures will remain between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius.
Guillermo Núñez Leal, General Manager of Coeproc, warns the public of the risks associated with prolonged exposure to the sun and the dangers of outdoor work during periods of intense heat.
Colder weather is expected on Monday
Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN) maintains its forecast of severe heat in the Cancun-Riviera Maya area. Nevertheless, the arrival of cold front number 39 is expected to impact the Yucatán Peninsula on Monday, bringing possible gusty winds, a chance of rainfall and a small drop in temperatures.
The SMN predicts a sultry and humid weekend for the region.
“Cold Front 39 will begin to travel along the Gulf of Mexico slope, bringing fresh and gusty winds from the north, a drop in temperatures and cloudy weather with rain accompanied by electrical activity over its area of influence,” the SMN reported.
Safety tips for travelers
Traveling during heat waves requires careful planning and precautions to ensure your safety and well-being. Here are some safety tips for travelers to keep in mind during periods of extreme heat:
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as these can lead to further dehydration.
Wear suitable clothing: Choose lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing to keep your body cool. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are also essential to protect you from the sun’s rays.
Use sunscreen: Regularly apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors.
Find shade: Stay out of direct sunlight where possible and seek shady areas, especially during midday hours when the sun’s rays are strongest.
Limit outdoor activities: Try to schedule outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon. Avoid strenuous activities during peak hours.
Stay informed: Stay informed of local weather forecasts and heat advisories. Be aware of the signs of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and know how to respond to them.
