Nelson and Doja also wanted to challenge stereotypes of masculinity, and so they landed on a series of muscular looks that were both strong and high-fashion. One such ensemble was a custom bodysuit created in collaboration with designer Natasha Zinko. “I asked her to do something she’s never done before: work with cast silicon, and she absolutely killed this look,” says Nelson. The stylist and Doja also teamed up with Off-White and IB Kamara for another muscular outfit. “It surprised me with the hand-painted muscles Casey,” says Nelson. “It’s so special and so cool.”
For the grand finale, Doja and Nelson wanted to close out the Coachella set with a bodycon look that felt powerful and climactic. “I talked to Alexander Wang about design ideas early on,” Nelson says. “There were so many ideas bouncing around, but we came up with the idea of playing rope and playing on the bone structure of her body, but making it super sexy. I mean, who doesn’t love a little kinky shibari moment on the biggest music stage in the world?â€
These striking costumes combined to create one of the most impactful fashion moments from the first Coachella weekend. As for tips on what Doja will wear during weekend two? Nelson says you just have to wait and see. “We have some new vibes coming for the second weekend,” Nelson says. “Just know it will be just as fun as the first weekend!”
