On May 1, the U.S. State Department revised and reissued its travel advisories for Germany and Poland.
Based on the situation on the ground, the agency decided that it was wise to make minor changes for one country and leave the other as it was.
In both cases, travelers are advised being aware of their surroundings in tourist or busy places; register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive important security news and help locate you if necessary; and have a plan in place if something unexpected happens.
Let’s see the updates.
Germany – Level 2: Be extra careful
The US Department of State has reissued its travel advisory Germany of a small change regarding terrorism.
The change is only “minor” because the US government still places Germany at “Level 2: Be More Cautious,” meaning the destination is quite safe.
According to the agency there are terrorist organizations that are prepared to commit attacks on German soil.
Such attacks can occur at public or tourist locations, places of worship, public transport, sporting and cultural events, educational centers and all types of gatherings.
Poland – Level 1: Take normal precautions
The US government has revised its travel advisory for Poland and found that the destination remains one of the safest places in the world.
Travelers only need to use common sense when visiting this country.
This travel warning is relevant because Poland shares an extensive international border with Ukraine, a country at war with Russia, and with Belarus, a country from which Russia has launched several attacks against Ukraine.
