With a 45 percent increase in searches, adrenaline seekers worldwide are actively seeking adventure travel that fulfills their desires to enhance both their physical and mental well-being and explore world-class destinations.
Most of these travelers have chosen the Philippines for its lush forest and untouched nature and Tanzania for its unique safari offerings.
Pinterest data shows that the most popular searches include diving photography (up 60% year-over-year), water park rides (up 170%) and hiking (up 94%).
These travelers also plan to spend their vacation days in luxury safari lodges (+110%).
Peaceful Living Tourism – Digital Detox
Travelers looking for ‘quiet life trips’ are tired of stressful city life. The number of seekers for this type of tourism has increased by as much as 530 percent in the past year!
According to Pinterest, these users are flocking to find “quiet spaces” and “calm places” in forests, remote beaches and rural towns where they can stay away from the toxic, interconnected digital world.
These travelers’ searches include glamping (up 260% year-over-year), mountain cabins (up 180%), national parks (up 250%) and wellness retreats (up 90%).
They think they can find these locations mainly in Okinawa, Japan and the English countryside.
Puzzling
There is an increasing fascination with traveling to places considered mysterious or unexplored. Some of these include ancient ruins, caves, hidden gems and even abandoned locations.
These destinations tap into travelers’ imaginations and sense of mystery, rather than tanning on the beach.
To satisfy their need for mystery, travelers book tickets to “places on Earth that don’t feel real (up to 240% year-on-year), haunted places (up to 155%), abandoned places (up to 230%), soothing nature (+340%) and beautiful locations worldwide (+150%).
The top mystery destinations for these types of travelers are Machu Picchu, Peru and Edinburgh, Scotland.
Gen Z – Road trips with friends
This target group absolutely does not like solo travel. They prefer to spend their holidays strengthening relationships with friends with whom they can share costs and avoid following an overly structured itinerary.
They are especially interested in places they can go by car and enjoy with friends (up to 50% annually).
Their main destination is Jasper, Canada (+155%).
