There’s something about living in the concrete jungle of New York City that might make you spot a few Real jungle – also called green – was a really good place. You know those little bits of grass that sometimes peek out of the cracks on the sidewalk? That feeling of seeing life somehow find its way is what Aaron Potts wanted to bottle up with his Spring 2024 lineup.
“In the city of the earth,” is Potts’ tagline for this season. “I wanted it to feel urban but also natural,” he said, so he cut his voluminous dresses and easy daywear from crisp but weightless cotton. The playful dresses gave this collection welcome nuance and variation in silhouette, as did his sportier body-con pieces in color-block sweaters – the athleisure-fication of fashion has proven difficult to escape.
But where Potts found his stride this season was in the way he pushed his workwear silhouettes into a space that felt as fresh as it did familiar. His signature colossal fit was retained, as was his genderless perspective, but here he neatly balanced the practical details he likes to play with with the considered and minimal cut he often offers. The overalls in the opening photo beg to be worn to the farmers market, and his ultra-oversized button-downs scream “summer Friday at the office.” Also nice: the way the designer draped and wrapped crossed bodies around the waist of some of his models. “I call it the urban bustle,” he said with a grin. More of this pragmatic playfulness will serve Potts well.
