For Beyoncé, the role marks her return to the Met Gala after a ten-year absence. The singer was last present in 2016 during the ‘Manus x Machina’ exhibition, where she wore Haute Couture by Givenchy. Since her debut at the gala in 2008, Beyoncé has attended seven times, often delivering some of the event’s most talked-about looks.
Her appointment as one of the co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala is significant as it elevates her presence from a guest to one of the event’s leading lights.

Their continued involvement reflects their status as Met Gala regulars. As co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala, both women bring years of experience with the event and its evolving fashion stories.
Anna Wintour’s continued influence at the Met Gala
The inclusion of Anna Wintour among the co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala maintains her central role in shaping the event. Although she recently stepped down as editor-in-chief of Vogue after 37 years, Wintour continues to shape the creative and institutional direction of the Met Gala.
Under her leadership, the Met Gala has grown into a global cultural spectacle, combining fashion, celebrity and museum fundraising in one televised moment each year.
