The Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA) has issued a formal advisory warns its members about it longer processing times and new border procedures when you travel to the United States, starting December 26, 2025. The warning follows the Implementation of a biometric entry and exit rule by the US Department of Homeland Securitywhich requires all non-US citizens – including Canadians – to have their photos and biometric data collected when entering and leaving the country.

The CSA notes that the new rule does not change eligibility or length of stayit will expand the information collected during border crossings and could lead to delays and secondary inspections. The association calls on travelers to do this ensure proper documentation, allow extra time at intersections, and check CSA updates.

Additionally, the CSA has clarified recent reports Canadian travelers must pay a $30 fee and have their fingerprints and photographs taken at certain U.S. land borders. U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed these are “standard operating procedures,” although enforcement currently varies by border location and officer discretion.

In general, the CSA encourages snowbirds plan ahead and stay informed while the United States is tightening border security through biometric measures.
