What travelers need to know when visiting Cancun during peak season

Visiting Cancun during peak season, which typically runs from December to April, offers a lively experience but requires some preparation. Here’s what travelers need to know:

Crowds and booking ahead: High season means more tourists. It is advisable to book flights, hotels and activities well in advance to ensure availability and possibly better rates.

Prices: Be prepared for higher prices during this peak period, both for accommodations and activities. Budgeting accordingly is important.

Weather: The high season offers warm, pleasant weather, perfect for beach activities. Provide suitable clothing, sunscreen and hats for sun protection.

Beach etiquette: Cancun’s beaches can be crowded. Please respect the space of other visitors and take into account local regulations, including any designated swimming areas.

Safety: Although Cancun is generally safe for tourists, you should exercise caution as you would with any popular tourist destination. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in busy areas, and use reputable transportation services.

Local culture and customs: Treating the local culture with respect enhances the experience. Learn a few basic Spanish phrases and take into account local customs and traditions.

Transport: During high season, traffic can be heavier. Plan extra travel time, especially if you’re going to the airport or popular tourist spots. Using public transportation, such as buses, can be an efficient and affordable option.

Activities and excursions: Consider booking popular tours and excursions in advance. This includes trips to famous landmarks such as Chichen Itza, Tulum and Xcaret Park.
