When we share our travel adventures, it says a lot about us.
Some of us hunt waterfalls, some of us visit world icons, and some of us like to venture into the unknown and discover hidden gems.
In this case, WalletHub has just revealed this winter’s best sunny holiday destination in their ‘Best winter holiday destinations (2024)‘ report, and it is known worldwide.
Whether you’ve been there ten times, have it on your ‘bucket list’ or only saw it in the cinema, there’s no place like Vegasno matter how many other casino-laden knockoffs try.
Despite cheap flights and world-class lodging, WalletHub’s research actually points to Vegas’ warm-weather activities and bountiful attractions as the city’s top draws.
While this is certainly true, Vegas wouldn’t be the same without the affordability factor. I’ve been several times and flights are too almost always affordable and the wide choice of luxury hotels simply couldn’t be better.
Every budget airline flies to Vegas
There’s some controversy brewing in the budget airline world, with one of the decades-long mainstays insisting on keeping precious life in the mix.
Spirit has recently laid off hundreds of pilots and cut dozens of routes left and right, but Las Vegas is one of the hubs of the budget airlines, so despite the uncertainty, you should be in good hands.
Even though I’ve decided I’m done flying Spirit, given the circumstances and other frustrations, they advertise dirt cheaply flight deals to Vegas at the moment, which seems promising.
Here are a few for examples under $30 one-way:
- Oakland, CA (OAK) – $21
- Dallas (DFW) – $24
- Seattle (SEA) – $27
Whatever your opinion of Spirit, if you want to save on airfare (and who doesn’t?), the good news is that every budget US airline flies here.
Frontier, Sun Country, Breeze, Avelo, and even JetBlue and Southwest, if you think they deserve this category, all bring passengers to “Sin City.”
Even the budget airlines of our southern and northern neighbors fly here, so you can really get to Vegas from anywhere in North America without spending a lot of money.
Although your best deals might be Allegiant since they are located here, which you will clearly see as you walk past the unmissable Allegiant Stadium.
World-class lodging: just pay attention to the fine print!
Las Vegas has one of the most recognizable skylines in the world and most of what you see are incredible hotels to stay in.
Some fancy, some classic and some downright cheesy, but one thing’s for sure: they’re all quintessentially Vegas.
I chose both chic and classic, and whatever you wanted to call Hooter’s Casino Hotel when it was open.
I know what you’re thinking, and yes, I clearly stayed here for the free chicken wings – no other agenda.
Needless to say, the chic and classic stays are much better options.
Great for beginners, The Cosmopolitan is a lavish hotel with excellent restaurants, a sleek casino floor, and epic views of America’s favorite playground.
But there are so many glamorous hotels to choose from that it’s hard to choose, so prices may make the decision for you – beware of Vegas’ sneaky resort fees when booking.
You can go from thinking you’ve scored the deal of a lifetime to realizing it’s actually not a deal at all. Unfortunately, there are no luxury hotels without resort fees, but I’m a fan of a classic Vegas stay on the bustling Strip in the heart of historic Fremont.
The old school (and reportedly haunted) Hotel Apache is no-nonsense but feels like Real Vegas back in the heyday of the mafia, and coincidentally the Mob Museum is just down the street.
Better yet, there is no resort fee, and it is one non-smoking building.
The newest hotels in Vegas are Fontainebleau Las Vegas and, more recently, Crockfords Las Vegas, opened its doors last summer.

Why visit in winter?
With much of the country hiding indoors next winter, Vegas is always a reliable destination for a sunny escape.
As WalletHub highlighted, there are endless things to do in Vegas, whether you spend the day at a slot machine, get tickets to some of the world’s best entertainers or visit the new Area.
Temperatures in Vegas are consistently in the 60s, so walking the Strip or Fremont Street is much better than the city’s sweltering summers.
There’s no doubt that Vegas is always busy, but you should find shorter wait times at top attractions and fewer sold-out attractions so you can score tickets to more shows.
