Nine-to-five jobs can be rewarding for well-known reasons, but for so many others they are no longer everyone’s ‘cup of tea’.

According to data, 17.3 million Americans have chosen to quit their office jobs and join the 40 million tribe of digital nomads around the world.

In a similar vein, 38% of US workers (64 million) engaged in freelance activities by 2023, according to an Upwork report unveiled in December last year.

So if you want to have more control over your schedule, work settings, finances, and the people you choose to spend your day with, freelancing could be the answer to your prayers.

Here’s a list of the three highest-paying freelance jobs in 2024, according to Forbes.

1. Freelance UX/UI designer

In particular, UX/UI designers must research and design user-friendly interfaces, conduct usability testing, and develop prototypes to validate design concepts for websites and mobile applications.

This in-demand service is expected to increase by 8% by 2027. So if you want to join this trend, now is the time to do so.

If you don’t have an academic background in this field, you can pursue an internship to learn more about web and app design, user research, and other essential aspects of UX/UI design.

Requirements:

  • Proven UX/UI design skills.
  • Experience with Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign or similar tools.
  • Experience with iOS and Android operating systems as it relates to user interface design.
  • It is almost mandatory to own a portfolio.
