Given Charleston’s aesthetically charming architecture, it would be thought that the popular city that often claimed to seeking European vibes would have a monopoly on the ‘magical’ destinations of South Carolina.
According to Southern lifeThat is not the case …
Not to say that there is a new sheriff in the city, but there is certainly an alternative in the area just an hour away.

Perfect for an autumn feature, the coast of South Carolina is covered with idyllic card cities with vintage shop fronts and open coasts.
Grab a mandatory PSL and shop until you jump around boutiques or enjoy the last chapter of Zon-Kissed Oevers before the winter cold shivers started.
At Travel Off Path we are happy to peel the curtain back about what we think the best alternative of Charleston is this fall – discover the joys of Edisto Island!
The best kept secret of the Lowcountry
South Carolina is the home of countless beaches that we all recognize – Myrtle Beach and Hilton go the head to name a few.

Edisto Island probably doesn’t call a bell, even so close to Charleston. It is small, restrained and we agree with the Take of Southern Living that it is really ‘magical’.
You will not find Starbucks or other similar chains that ruin the expired era with modern thornodoren.
Instead, you can pass on classic general stores, mom ats, bookshops and local boutiques, plus an abundance or ways to immerse yourself in nature on the edge.
Grouped in the cluster of the Sea Islands of South Carolina, we are not going to say that you will forget everything about the beauty of Charleston.

What we will say is that you are wondering how Edisto (pronounced as Ed-Is-Toeen) has slipped through the cracks for so long.
Unspoilt, crowd-free beaches and inviting waterways
Regardless of the season, if you go to numerous beach cities in Florida or have to use your passport in Mexico, crowds are a challenge to avoid.
The same can also be said for other southern states. With the rise of Mississippi and SCs Continuous stronghold, discovering hidden gems is not always an easy task.
Edisto Island, however, fits on the mold.
As Southern Living put it,

After a stretch of 14 miles along the National Scenic Byway by Edisto Island, you will arrive at picturesque coasts with few footprints and they invite waterways to explore another side of the natural splendor of the city.
After you have checked in a timeless bed and breakfast, your first stop for a joyful beach day should be none other than Edisto Beach State Park ($ 8 admission), the home of Serene Kusten and the above ways to immerse yourself in nature.
It is safe to say that this park should not be one-and-driven. Take a day enjoying the quiet beach and the next exploratory hiking trails through lush forestry.

You can also visit Botany BayA quiet place to take quiet waters and peaceful creeks, ponds and canals, as well as a deep dive in the history of the island as a former location of a few plantations.
However, the best way to enjoy the outdoors in the city is the best way to enjoy the outdoors. Those people know about renting a bicycle for the 5-MIJL Edisto Island Bike Path to catch their bearings in the Zoute Bries with the freedom to make stops in cool places over the city.
Cover the deep roots in the Gullah culture, Edisto Island Museum ($ 8 admission) is a place where you don’t want to skip.
Stay for a while: enjoy a relaxed retreat

Holiday in the south is the only place where you can set aside flashy resorts and embrace a homely stay, literally. Popular holiday rental platform HomeTogo (and one that I prefer over Airbnb) has crowned Edisto Island as The most trigger us outing for Labor Day.
Holiday rental runs unbridled here, stickers in the center and the coast, so that you can enjoy more space than traditional hotel rooms and even clean up your own meal if you want, but I would say give Seacow Eatery A chance – both the locals and tourists love it!
As far as hotels are concerned, there are a few to choose from, but TripAdvisor has Club Wyndham Ocean Ridge Claim the #1 place, largely due to seclusion, a view of the ocean and abundant activities to stay busy.

Autumn prices are currently as low as $ 137 if you prefer to make your base here, but many who have discovered Edisto makes a worthy day trip from Charleston.
