Everyone loves a relaxing day at the spa, but unfortunately it’s a luxury that most of us don’t get to treat ourselves to on a regular basis. However, that shouldn’t stop you from treating yourself! Here’s how to create a spa-like experience at home.
Set the mood
One of the main things that make spas so special is the atmosphere. Fortunately, much of it can be replicated quite easily! Choose a room that feels most relaxing to you, whether that’s your bathroom or the bedroom. Dim the lights down or use candles and fairy lights to create a warm atmosphere. Consider playing some soft background music or nature sounds, if that is preferable to silence.
You can also use some scented candles or essential oils to create that spa-like sensory experience (opt for calming scents like lavender, eucalyptus, and chamomile). Even adding small details like a comfortable robe can make a big difference. Whatever you do, the goal is to make your space feel extra special so you can truly unwind!
Start with a soothing bath or shower
A warm bath or shower is the perfect way to start your spa day at home. It helps relax muscles, open pores and prepare your skin for the rest of your routine. When you take a bath, you can add bath salts or a bath soak to enhance the experience. If it’s a shower, take a few extra minutes to enjoy the heat and steam.
This is also a great opportunity to show your body some extra love with skin care steps and products that you normally don’t have time for. Maybe you use a hair mask to bring the shine back into your hair or exfoliating body scrubs to leave your skin feeling soft and glowing. Use it as an opportunity to slow down and be in the present moment.
Nourish and relax
After bathing or showering, apply a rich body lotion or cream while your skin is still slightly damp as this helps maximize moisture retention in the skin. Again, take your time with this step and slowly massage the product into your skin, rather than rushing through it. You will notice that the tension in your muscles is released, making you feel even more relaxed.
At this point it’s time to relax. Make yourself a delicious cup of tea or pour a nice glass of sparkling wine. You can also bring a face mask or do your nails, if you wish. However, try to avoid unnecessary distractions such as using your phone for a while – you are not only nourishing your body, but also your mind.
A simple act of self-love
Creating a spa experience for yourself doesn’t have to take hours or be expensive to leave you feeling as refreshed and relaxed as you would in real life. The truth is, a spa day is mostly about giving yourself permission to slow down and bring a sense of calm and self-love into your life. Everything else is just nice additions.
