Switching from conventional, chemical-filled deodorant is one of the best things you can do for your health and your body. While there are a lot of great solid and spray deodorants on the market that are natural and organic, sometimes it’s more fun to make your own product at home, it will save you a lot of money and you can also customize it exactly to your liking.
You can also determine exactly what goes into your deodorant spray, so that you can make the simplest and cleanest product possible. If you’re not careful, natural brands can often put a lot of unwanted ingredients in their products. Even though these ingredients may be much less bad than those in conventional deodorant, many people still want to avoid these types of additives.
While it may seem overwhelming and difficult, making your own natural deodorant spray at home is about as easy as it gets. It requires very few ingredients, it’s budget-friendly and chances are you already have most of the ingredients at home. But if making your own deodorant at home isn’t your style, check out the 10 best natural and organic deodorants here!
Ingredients
For the base of the spray you need the following ingredients:
- Organic vodka
- Distilled water
If you don’t have organic vodka, you can use another organic high-proof alcohol. Gin, whisky, bourbon or tequila are all great options too! If possible, use organic alcohol to ensure you don’t spray chemicals and pesticides on your armpits.
Alcohol is often made from potatoes, sugar cane and wheat, all crops that are either GMO or heavily sprayed with pesticides. Roundup is generally sprayed on GMO crops because the crops are resistant to these types of pesticides. Roundup is a known human carcinogen and can cause cancer, reproductive problems and birth defects.

There are many great brands that produce healthy organic spirits. Ocean Vodka makes a very high quality organic vodka that is always a good option.
For the natural scent you need a combination of the following:
- Rose essential oil
- Ylang ylang essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Geranium essential oil
- Jasmine essential oil
- Chamomile essential oil
- Clary sage essential oil
- Juniper berry essential oil
- Or another floral essential oil of your choice. The possibilities are endless!
Of course, you will also need a spray bottle with water. To keep your essential oils fresh and safe, you will want to use a dark glass water bottle with a spray head. You can often find cheap dark glass bottles at your local health food market, or you can easily purchase them online.

You can make several deodorant sprays at the same time, because the high alcohol content makes them last well. But you can also make them one at a time if you prefer a freshly made deodorant spray. These sprays are super flexible!
When creating your deodorant spray scent, you can use any combination of the above oils or other floral essential oils that you have and love. Some nice combinations are:
- Rose, chamomile, lavender
- Ylang ylang, juniper, geranium
- Rose and lavender
- Jasmine and clary sage
- Chamomile and jasmine
- Juniper berry, clary sage, rose
- Geranium and chamomile
Instructions
- Fill your spray bottle with half of vodka or other spirits and fill the rest with distilled water.
- Add 10 drops of each essential oil per 1 oz.
- Shake the mixture together.
- Spray 1 to 2 sprays under the armpits in the morning and freshen up at any time of the day.
- Store your floral deodorant spray in a cool, dry and dark place so it stays fresh for as long as possible. A great place to keep your spray is in a bathroom cabinet.
- Each time you use your spray, shake it well to ensure that the essential oils in the bottle distribute well throughout the liquid. Essential oils float on water, so if you want to properly eject essential oils, vigorous shaking is an important step!
And your DIY natural, organic, floral deodorant spray is ready! This is an incredibly easy to prepare spray that will keep your pets smelling fresh and dry all day long. As with most natural deodorant options, you will still find that you sweat a little more than if you use conventional deodorant with aluminum as the main ingredient. Aluminum clogs the sweat glands in your armpits, which is why you don’t sweat when you use an aluminum-based antiperspirant.
However, you will still notice that your pits sweat less than if you did not use anything at all. Over time, your underarms will adapt to and detox from conventional deodorant, causing you to sweat less naturally. It’s a win-win scenario.
