Beyond the Cheesesteaks: Dive into the cultural gems of PhiladelphiaSurprising amount of affordable (and free) attractions

While the fierce lights of New York City tend to steal the spotlights of other major cities in the northeast, we recently treated Baltimore at Travel Off Path as one of the rising spring destinations in the region, but now it’s time to reveal a summer shocker.

More known for Rocky BalboaFamous Ooey-Goey Cheesesteak is and ‘Brotherly Love’, there is much more to be in the historic city of Philadelphia.

With a laundry list with cheap (and even free) attractions, timeless charm and cultural neighborhoods outside the towering skyline, Philly is perhaps the largest summer surprise in America.

Take Mexico City for example. Who would be a lively, buzzing Chinatown district there?

But it is actually one of my favorite elements of the city when you have to get a switcheroo from the endless taco stands that floods every corner.

The same applies to Philly. Usually known for cheese steaks (and rightly), there is much more to discover to delight your taste buds and immerse yourself in unexpected layers of cultures and traditions that have been speckled by the city.

Bella Vista (also known to some as “Little Italy”) is anchored by one of Philly’s most undervalued attractions, the open air 9th Street Italian market.

Certainly not former gangsters playing Bocce, And the aromas of every conceivable Italian dish, along with a handful of other intercourse international cuisines.

The neighborhood is very walkable and a great way to start your day with a Bella Vista -not, Persimmon Coffee.

Keep in mind that for a reason Philly is known as the ‘city of Broederliefde’. Despite the fact that they have a brash reputation, people are generally hospitable in his various communities.

Chinatown and Little Italy are just a sample size, because there are countless lively neighborhoods to explore:

  • Fishtown

Important: it is best to avoid Kensington, because it is generally recognized as an open -air market for illegal activities that pose a danger to visitors who are unknown with the area.
