In the immediate, devastating aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, the top question on every traveler’s mind was, “Should I cancel my trip to Jamaica?” With airports closed and resorts suffering serious damage, the future of the island’s winter tourism season is in serious doubt.

Now we have the first clear answers.

Jamaica’s official target date for the tourism industry will be will be fully operational again on December 15, 2025.

The best news for travelers? Both Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay And Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston are already open and operational.

While some hotels were lucky to escape the worst, many major resorts are reopening in phases. This is the most critical information for anyone who has booked a trip. We’ve put together the official, verified list of reopening dates so you can plan accordingly.


Planned resort reopening dates

Here is a list of opening dates announced by various resorts and the Jamaica Tourist Board.

Already opened

These properties were largely unaffected by the storm or are already fully operational. Travelers to these resorts, but also in Kingston And Ocho Rioswill see the most normality.

These properties are moving at incredible speed to welcome guests back this month.

  • November 10: Azul Beach Resort Negril; Iberostar properties (Select Rose Hall Suites, Waves Rose Hall Beach, JOIA Rose Hall); Spanning Pen Hotel
  • November 15: Riu Negril; Sunset at the palm trees
  • November 16: Ocean coral spring; Ocean Eden Bay
  • November 20: Riu Montego Bay
  • November 28: Your Excellency Oyster Bay
  • November 30: Riu Palace Jamaica; Riu Reggae Montego Bay; Riu Palace Tropical Bay

December 2025 Reopenings

This is the big pressure. The following resorts are targeting the official date of December 15 to be ready for the high season.

  • December 1: Couples Resorts (Negril, Sans Souci, Wiped Out, Tower Isle); Grand Decameron Properties; Princess Great Jamaica; Princess feels the mangrove
  • December 6: Beaches Negril; Dunn’s River Sandals; Sandals Negril; Sandals Ochi; Sandals Royal Plantation
  • December 8: Round Hill Hotel and Villas
  • December 13: The Tryall Club
  • December 15: Half Moon (phased reopening); Riu Palace Aquarelle; Royalton Properties (Blue Waters, White Sands, Negril)

Reopenings in 2026 (worst affected)

This is the most critical, ‘must-know’ information for travelers. The following resorts, many of which are concentrated in the hard-hit Montego Bay area, have suffered significant damage and are not expected to reopen until 2026.

  • January 31, 2026: Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Rose Hall; Breathless; Zoetry; Secrets; Jewelry Resorts in Montego Bay
  • May 30, 2026: Sandals Montego Bay; Royal Caribbean sandals; Sandals south coast
