As 2024 draws to a close, Los Cabos is preparing to welcome an estimated 3.9 million air travelers, an increase of 100,000 visitors compared to 2023. This strong increase in tourism underlines the growing appeal and resilience of the destination, despite previously modest expectations.
Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (Fiturca), highlighted a strong recovery in the second half of the year. In October, arrivals rose by 2.8%, November recorded an increase of 4.5% and growth of around 5% is expected in December. Looking ahead to 2025, a further 2% to 3% increase in air connectivity is expected, especially through expanded markets in the United States.
The Los Cabos Hotel Association expects an average hotel occupancy rate of 75% for the last two weeks of December. During the peak holiday period, including Christmas and New Year celebrations, occupancy is expected to reach 90%. The average nightly rate for accommodations during this period is $539, positioning Los Cabos as one of Mexico’s most premium/expensive destinations.
Compared to the vibrant spring season of 2024, prices have dropped slightly as the average nightly rate during that period was $564which positioned Los Cabos as the most expensive destination in the country at the beginning of this year.
Despite these impressive figures, the destination faced challenges during the low season, when local businesses reported a decline in sales of more than 50%. However, the holiday season’s robust performance highlights Los Cabos’ resilience and continued popularity in a competitive tourism market.
