Of all the trends that recently went around, the phenomena of Unicorn really speaks to me. Maybe it’s the hours I spent when watching a child My little pony. Perhaps it is the combination of candy colors and sparkling glitter. Or maybe it’s just fun to take a break from the seriousness of life to create something that lets you go “oooooh !!”
Whatever it is, I wanted to jump on the Unicorn train and found the perfect opportunity while working on a recipe for beaten sugar scrubs. These moisturizing small pots of pink and purple goodness look good enough to eat – so much even that I did not dare to smell them with a aroma too edible! (My husband still did not forgive me that he bit that time in a cookie -shaped bath bomb.) I went with a classic flower slender for my scrubs, but these would be great scents with a nice vanilla or sherbet scent.
Children will love this as much as adults. (OK, maybe even a little more.) In fact, this is exactly the right type of project to make with a cunning young person. Children and teenagers will love to mix the colors and decorate the pots. I would like to have made this during a sleepover, long ago.
Materials:
– 8 ONS Refined Shea -Boter
– 2 ounce apricot oil
– 1/2 teaspoon of lavender essential oil (optional)
– 2 cups of white sugar
– Cosmetic mineral micas
-8 2-essence pots
– Golden glitter glue foam
– permanent marker
Step one: Place the shea butter in the bowl with an electric standard mixer and beat at high speed to light and airy (about 2 minutes). You can also use an electric hand mixer and mixing bowl for this step. Reduce the mixing speed to delay, sprinkle in apricot oil and essential oil (if use) and mix slowly until it is combined. Bring the mixer again at high speed and beat another minute or two – until the butter has a beautiful downy texture. Think of buttercream frosting! Carefully fold the sugar and mix the ingredients just enough to fully combine them.
Step two: Divide the mixture into four bowls – one for each color that you intend to make. Add a pin or two colored mica to each bowl and stir well to mix in the color. I used red mica to make pink, blue mica to make blue and a pinch of red and blue to make purple. I left one bowl of white for contrast.
Step three: Spoon the colored scrub into your pots and gently tap the pots between each layer. The layers will probably be a bit wrong, but this contributes to the whimsical beauty of the recipe. The bumpy layers remind me of small clouds or cotton candy. So cute!
Step four: After placing caps on your pots, it’s time to decorate! Use scissors to cut small triangles out of the sheet of glitter foam. I used gold for my unicorn horns, but you can adjust this project with every glitter color that you like – silver, pink or purple would be beautiful! Stick a triangle on each pot and use a permanent marker to draw on sleepy eyelashes.
Your scrubs stay beautiful for about three months at room temperature – although the colors can fade a little or change if they are exposed to sunlight for too long. Once the scrubs are open, it is best to use them quickly, because this recipe does not contain a preservative.
