The sports calendar may have calmed down due to the end of the football season, but the style circuit certainly has not. In fact, the fashion attention only increased. Last week, men reminded us that red carpets, award shows and the front rows of Fashion Week offer as many opportunities for standout style as any other arena tunnel walk. From film premieres and street presentations to major awards ceremonies and even a chic escape to the Swiss Alps, the invitations kept pouring in. And our stars responded accordingly, delivering looks that were intentional, elevated and distinctly personal.
What stood out most, however, was the balance. A clear line emerged: high-quality customization infused with personality; structured silhouettes softened by unexpected textures; historic basics styled with contemporary ease; and monochrome moments that remained both impressive and effortless. From Los Angeles to New York and every city in between, black men embraced clothing that reflected their evolving style stories.
The looks
At the Crime 101 premiere, Corey Hawkins delivered one of the most impressive fashion moments of the week in a sharply tailored DZOJCHEN ensemble. The black suit had strong shoulders and smooth, elongated lines, creating a stately silhouette that we couldn’t ignore. Instead of opting for a traditional shirt, Hawkins paired the tailoring with a sheer high-neck top, a subtle yet impactful choice that introduced texture. The shoes from Slanke Doucal gave the look an understated shine David Yurman Jewelry added understated metallic accents that elevated rather than distracted. The glasses from L’Écurie Paris completed the whole, providing intellectual coolness and deliberately framing the aesthetic.
Meanwhile, at the African-American Film Critics Association Awards in Los Angeles, Melvin Gregg leaned on the power of monochrome clothing. With Lardini, he embraced a warm camel palette that felt luxurious without screaming for attention. The look focused on a button-down shirt-jacket, paired with matching trousers, creating an elegant balance between relaxed structure and red carpet formality. A crisp white shirt and sleek black tie provided sharp contrast, reinforcing classic menswear codes while maintaining contemporary relevance. Polished black shoes anchored the softer tones and added a final layer of timeless sophistication. Indeed, Gregg’s ensemble was a study in restraint, a reminder that cohesive color stories and thoughtful tailoring can have maximum impact without excess.
During the Coach Fall/Winter 2026 show, Caleb McLaughlin offered a different, but equally compelling interpretation of modern menswear, rooted in the cool and historic Americana of the inner city. His oversized black leather jacket, complete with statement pockets and shiny hardware, served as a statement anchor. Underneath, a crisp, striped button-down was introduced, with the tail of the shirt deliberately peeking through to soften the silhouette. Loose jeans in a light wash provide an easy contrast to the sharper lines of the jacket. Black sneakers kept the look grounded and practical, while a structured Coach tote, finished with signature details and playful tags, tied it all together. Ultimately, McLaughlin’s outfit encapsulated the broader story of the week: tradition reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, worn with authenticity and effortless confidence.
