It is known that budget airlines often making you think you are getting the best deal.
Whether it concerns measuring the size of your bag down to the millimeter or selling Diet Coke on board north of $5, we like to say this one is legit.

With some promotional rates less than $50travelers can score the deal of a lifetime to 3 of Latin America’s most fascinating places, with easy access to phenomenal beaches and timeless colonial towns that ooze charm and culture.
To their credit, Border has undergone an extensive makeover amid Spirit’s intermittent financial struggles to become much more customer-friendly than the horror stories circulating on social media.
With legitimately cheap fares and an impressively growing route map, they’ve earned the Travel Off Path Seal of Approval, so feel free to take advantage of their latest launch to 3 Central American bangers from 2 major US airports.
Head to the safest country in Latin America

El Salvador previously held the ugly title of ‘murder capital’ of the world, but has pulled the ultimate switcheroo and has now become the safest country in Latin America.
By undertaking sweeping cleanup efforts to rid their streets of violent criminals who have made headlines for the controversial methods they use, the results undoubtedly speak for themselves.
El Salvador is small yet mighty. Central America’s smallest country impresses with its diverse appeal, ranging from world-class surf spots, chic resorts, amazing volcanic hikes and beautiful small towns where you can relax and be immersed in local life, such as Ataco (my favorite!).

Take a quick flight to Guatemala: Mexico’s best alternative
Guatemala is somehow still underestimated. Being Mexico’s southeastern neighbor, it’s just as easy to fly here as to Cancun, Cabo and the like. Moreover, Guatemala is much less crowded.

While Guatemala’s beaches (both Pacific and Caribbean waters) may be understated, this beautiful country is as diverse as El Salvador and just as welcoming to visitors, perhaps none more so than the picture-postcard town of Antigua, just an hour from Guatemala City airport.
Most travelers consider Guatemala City a dud and instead take an Uber to Antigua, where you can base yourself in a vibrant, storied cityscape and use it as a springboard to beautiful nature like the Pacaya Volcano, Lake Atitlán and the surrounding highlands.
Although tourists largely consider Guatemala safe, be aware of the latest news from the US Embassy alert.

Honduras: Central America’s last frontier

Let’s face it: When you’re thinking of your next adventure outside Mexico, you probably haven’t thought about Honduras, a country that’s often portrayed more as a humanitarian infomercial than a tourism board marketing campaign.
But let me tell you a secret: Honduras has been one of the most surprising highlights of my recent travels this past year.
Despite safety concerns, the majority of crime occurs where tourists would not set foot. I traveled alone, and the locals couldn’t have been friendlier, helping me navigate bus routes and pointing out hidden gems I wouldn’t otherwise find.

While San Pedro Sula can be skipped as a base, the little-known Caribbean treasure Tela is just an hour’s drive away. half a journey away, but I recommend visiting Copan Ruinas – a village etched in time that boasts some of the world’s best preserved Mayan ruins and is insanely affordable across the board.
Unlike El Salvador and Guatemala, Frontier skips Dallas and launches a new route from Houston (IAH) to San Pedro Sula (SAP):
- Saturday service only
- Launched on December 20
- Promotional rate as low as $49 (purchase before 10:59 Central Time, December 30)
