West Virginia, take me … to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park
Everything is right to count bottles of beer on the wall, but let’s not even pretend there is a better road trip number than Take me home, rural roads.
We all blown up the unofficial theme song of West Virginia at some point, but we rarely rarely do the state ourselves for a fun, relaxed outing.
Full disclosure – West Virginia has often been on the wrong side of headlines, because nowadays countless former coal mine hubs are nothing more than ghost cities, in some cases leave the local population in poverty and have the highest death rate for overdoses in the nation, according to the CDC.
Those very headlines, along with dark mysteries from Appalachia, have thrown a shadow over the clear places of West Virginia people who have long missed – is one of them Cass Scenic Railroad State Park.

Greenbriar Express (Operational May – October) –
Mostly Durbin Is the highlight of this route. Trust from Cass, De Greenbrier Express offers a picturesque journey to one of the picturesque cities in West Virginia that radiates timeless charm with general stores, Mom & Pop -aut, all chased by amazing wilderness of Monongahela National Forest.
Cass Bald Knob Trip (Operational May – October) –
I hope you are not afraid of heights! This 4.5 -hour trek to Bald Knob takes passengers more than 2,300 feet for a breathtaking view of Appalachian Landscapes, ranging from spruce forests and stunning mountains, because this is the second highest point in West Virginia.
Cass Whitaker Station (Operational May – October) – –
Return to 2 hours, guests can hang on board the age-old trains and puff past picturesque meadows and rolling hills, eventually reaching Whitaker station to dive deep into the historic logging operations of the area.
This route includes a 30 -minute break to take a beautiful view of the countryside and to go through the reconstructed wood camp and intriguing exhibitions.

Camping is not for everyone. That is why “Glamping” has become more popular, but who would ever reject a hut in the forest?
To be honest, the huts of Cass Scenic Railroad State Park are perhaps the best of everything because they are House a maximum of 14 people comfortable With layouts of 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms.
